Comedian and Hollywood actor Kevin Hart was involved in a horrific car crash over the weekend and suffered a serious back injury that required surgery.

TMZ first reported the accident, revealing video footage of the aftermath of the accident, which saw Hart's vintage Plymouth Barracuda veer off a Mulholland Highway canyon and into a deep gully about 10 feet off the road. The roof of the car was completely crushed by the impact.

It has since been reported that Hart, miraculously, was able to away form the crash and went to his nearby home "to get medical attention." He eventually checked himself into a L.A.-area hospital, where he underwent evaluation and eventually surgery for what what cops called "a major back injury."

Thankfully, it seems the surgery was successful. Kevin's wife, Eniko Hart, offered a brief update to TMZ while on her way into the hospital, telling the site Kevin's "going to be just fine." The comedian/actor is expected to remain in the hospital for the next few days while he recovers.

Fellow Jumanji co-star Dwayne Johnson offered a heartfelt message to his close friend on social media.

It remains to be seen what sort of condition Hart will be in following the back surgery.

Hart stars in Jumanji: The Next Level alongside Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. The film opens in theaters on December 13, 2019.

Woah I didn't know about this. He must be really lucky. Hope Hart is all good at the end of the day.

I know the article stated that Hart was not the driver, but I'm just wondering if they've gotten the toxicology report back yet. Unfortunately, almost any time you hear about a "one car accident", there's more often than not drugs or alcohol involved.

@Feralwookiee - I believe they've already stated drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

Luckily alcohol was not a factor and Kevin was not driving. Hope he has a speedy recovery and a very long career.

@MarvellousPORG

I'm no big fan of the Rock but I don't see anything wrong with his message.

Saw pictures of the wreck, it's a good thing he's like three feet tall or he'd have been in real trouble. Hope his recovery isn't complicated and he's back to doing what he loves in a timely manner.

@Reeds2Much - literally what I thought when I saw the wreck

@MarvellousPORG - you mean how you’re coming in and adding your two cents to him “adding his two cents”? Most folks would just call that being supportive of a friend that was just in a major car accident

Something's fishy. He left the scene to go get medical help for himself? And left other people trapped inside the car? Something doesn't smell right.

@G - he didn’t leave anyone trapped anywhere. he wasn’t driving and was able to walk to his home to call authorities who then transported him and his two friends to the hospital. The article posted here seemed to have left that bit out.

So many things did not make sense about this story. Hart's friend was supposedly driving and after the accident Hart went home??? With a major back injury, wish him a speedy recovery but there is stuff that went on we will never know.

@MarvellousPORG - a person cannot wish recovery for his friend? Yeah you're right, why have any good manners at all. Why wish other studios and competitors good success and good luck. Right?
