MOWGLI: See A Much Darker Take On THE JUNGLE BOOK With This First Look At The Andy Serkis Helmed Movie

The full trailer for Mowgli will be released at 11am PST but a clip from the preview debuted on UK show This Morning and Andy Serkis is definitely delivering a much darker take on this classic tale...

Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book was widely viewed as a turning point for Disney's live-action movies and considering the fact it was a critical and commercial hit, you can see why Andy Serkis' Mowgli was delayed to create some distance between the two. However, this first look at the trailer makes it clear that Warner Bros.' take on the classic Rudyard Kipling tale will be much darker than most expected.

Actors like Christian Bale and Benedict Cumberbatch also performed on set as these characters before the best motion-capture technology was used to bring them to life and actually give the animals the same range of facial expressions those playing them have. It's definitely a unique approach and one which will no doubt help distinguish Mowgli from previous, much lighter, takes on the classic tale.

As noted above, the first full-length trailer will be released later today but you can watch over a minute of it below. It definitely looks like it has some potential but whether or not moviegoers will be interested in seeing this familiar story told yet again so soon after Disney's amazing take obviously remains to be seen. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts below.

Is it a girl or a boy? I can't tell.

@Luminus - ...it's a boy. I mean, he's shirtless.

@Origame - Well, it IS 2018, you know.

@Demba - lol. Nevermind. I'm just having some fun.

@Luminus - That doesn't matter. No major blockbuster is going to have a little girl running around shirtless for the whole film, just on basis of avoiding needless controversy.

Don't think this will be a huge success. Don't see a lot differences between this version and Disney's one so far. I know this is a low quality version, but for a CGI-expert as Serkis, a few shots looked pretty bad. Probably isn't done yet, but still...

@Unites - I would say that the movie doesn't come out until October so they've got plenty of time to fix those shots, but this movie's been in post-production for at least two and a half years so those shots probably should've been fixed already.

@Ragnarocknroll - He Actually is, he is brought on to help cgi actors like Smaug or ultron. He talks a lot about the subject. I think it’s unfair to say he does not know about the art.

@Ragnarocknroll - Oh and I should say he talks about the subject with decent knowledge, making me believe he is quite passionate at it.

“It’s a given that they absolutely copy (the performance) to the letter, to the point in effect what they are doing is painting digital makeup onto actors’ performances.”-Andy serkis, but I guess somebody could have told him that, but a lot of people think the animators do everything, they don’t, it’s balance between the actors, directors and animators.

It’ll be interesting to see how the GA respond to this especially after The Jungle Book but I for one am excited to see a darker interpretation and hopefully (as nostalgic as they were) without the songs.

I have absolutely no idea what to think of this. I really don't see the point of this one but I'm still hoping it's good. It has a very talented cast.
