I hope we don't get that type of rock music in the actual movie, but it seems likely because the lead-singer of the band Muse is collaborating with the composer, Craig Armstrong, on the music. The song that is used in the trailer is by the band Muse, so it's likely that we'll hear similar tunes in the film, at least in my opinion. Maybe not, as I think he said, when asked, he'd do some "vague work" or something. I personally hope he doesn't put much rock riffs in there.

I said it on the first trailer's article, and I'll say it again. They should have used a more epic, orchestral theme for the trailer(s). Rock guitar riffs just don't mix well with Greek mythology IMO.

They should have used something like the "Trinity" theme from Spider-Man 3.

OH....MY.....GODS!!!!..THAT WAS EPIC!

RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!

Tyler- I'm pretty sure they won't use rock music
But I LOVED THE MUSIC WITH THE NEW TRAILER!
I'm sure they will use an orchestra in the
Actuall movie.

Tyler: I agree 100%, I love all kinds of music, hard rock and thrash included. But it doesn't belong in a Greek mythology epic. This looks fantastic otherwise.

Kes: Thanks :)

Hawks: Me too. I love good, rocking guitar songs, but it doesn't mesh well with this type of movie. It just doesn't connect.

But that really is the only complaint I have with this trailer. The action, effects, actors/actresses all look superb.

since the last article got deleted I'll just repeat what I said before...lol

Holy Crap that was awesome, and I really like the remix of the Used's Bird and the worm that is my fav song by them and that sounded amazing.

The Medusa scene looks amazing, can't wait to see the whole thing that was my fav scene in the original.

I don't know tyler, the 300 trailers all featured heavy rock riffs but the movie was pretty epic sounding. I think we may see something like tat here.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 12/13/2009, 7:32 PM
Guardian: There were a fair few rock riffs in 300 the movie, which I didn't mind, but that was a different take on the Greek world than what will be in this film (I assume so)

300 was pretty much about ripped-out soldiers tearing the crap out of Persians for about 2 hours. I thought that some hard guitar rock music fit the totally brutal nature of the film.

This, on the other hand, is more of an epic adventure quest/journey, where I don't think rock music fits in. A sweeping, orchestral score meshes better with this type of story.

EDIT: I apologize. I was confusing the band Muse with the band, The Used, who made the song which was in the trailer.

The singer who is contributing to the music is from Muse, not the Used, which was what I originally thought. I like Muse's music quite a bit, and they aren't a heavy rock band like the music in this trailer, so I don't have much fear that we'll get some rock-out songs in the movie.

It's all good tyler, but yeah it's the used here is the original video....my gf got me into them they are her fav band.

@Danny@ did you know that the original Clash of the Titans inspired a lot of the first God of War
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 12/13/2009, 8:37 PM
the last superman had a larger effects budget than this though jonathan. I think it's more about story than how much money you can throw at something.

and tyler I just finished watching the 300 and you're right it does have some guitar riffs. All I remembered was that kind of gregorian chant thing that poped up a few times. Still I think a score like that, with some grunge like elements, would be okay. I mean we've seen that they've taken a few liberties with the myth in making it rather "dark"...and the marine hair cut. For my money it looks like a retelling of the myth for a modern audience rather than a remake of the original movie.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 12/13/2009, 8:50 PM
Guardian: I do admit that the marine hair cut is annoying :) Other than the music and that, the trailer is still teh awsumsawce.

I'm okay with modernizing the story a little bit. It seems like they're just amping up the action and special effects, with maybe a bit of good ol' rock thrown in the mix.

Again, I'm okay with that, as it still seems to be maintaining a faithfulness to both mythology and the original. I just don't want to hear some face-melters during the majority of the movie. A couple scenes with a little guitar shredding is okay, as long as it fits in within the scene and isn't distracting, and there is still a hefty amount of orchestral themes to go around.
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 12/13/2009, 8:54 PM
yeah, I like a fair mix of both in movies like this. If they were going for the feel of like gladiator I'd think a grunge-rock theme would be all wrong, but this seems to be highly stylized so I'm okay with the liberties in music...and even his hair. I mean it's not historically accurate at all...but it looks badass.

Well, Mads Mikkelsen looks really bad-ass in this movie :)
