From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

The trailer will be online tomorrow at 9am EST. The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.

Maleficent is produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg, with Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith, Palak Patel and Sarah Bradshaw serving as executive producers. Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay. Maleficent opens in theaters on May 30, 2014.

This looks good! I really want to see the trailer.. If this is dark enough and not all Disney, this will do really good!

Yet it is being made by Disney. They did a pretty good job with the original, one of their best animated villains of all time.

The Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney princess. I had a poster of her next to one with Spider-Man. Not that anyone cares.

@sameoldthing How can it not going to have a Tim Burton look to it? Tim was influenced by anything spooky, macabre and gothic! And this movie had a spookiest as shit villian living a castle that's right out of a Universal/Hammer horror movie and Tim channels lots of Universal and Hammer into his movies! So tbh I WANT them to do it, cos it's cool as [frick] and it will also stay true to the original Maleficent

I don't like this "villain with a heart" thing one bit. The thing most people like about Maleficent is that she's pure evil. She is arguably the best villain Disney has. I think she's the only one to ever say the word "Hell" in an animated Disney film.

@FamousMonster
Burton May like the spooky & macabre but sadly he adds quirky bits that may work for material like Edward Scissorhands & Nightmare Before Christmas..but he hasn't made a real scary & twisted film.

This movie won't be scary either..but it should be.
Will have to wait & see I suppose.

Interesting. But Maleficent isn't a witch or a sorceress. She's a Dark Fairy. In contrast to the three good ones in the Disney animated film.

@RetroFit- Snow White and The Huntsman wasn't Disney. The only things they've done is Live-action Alice(making a sequel), OZ TGAP(god awful movie)and of course they made that live-action musical Cinderella movie and Pinocchio in the 90s. I think they shelved a live-action adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast musical they were planning.

I think the best villains are the ones with potential for redemption yet ultimately turn away from it.

Hopefully the film will be good, dark, gritty and fun.

The last fairy tale based film i watched was Hansel and Gretel which was just awful, awful dialogue and just plain crap and before that i saw Snow White and The Huntsman, that was boring and bland.
