Ryan Reynolds Sets Out To Save All Imaginary Friends In First Trailer For John Krasinski's IF

The first trailer for John Krasinski's fantasy comedy IF has arrived and it's every bit as magical as you might've hoped for as Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming team up in a live-action Pixar movie!

With the year's biggest December releases right around the corner, Paramount has launched the official trailer for IF, their eagerly awaited family-friendly fantasy film, which centers around a young "girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids."

The film, which debuted its first footage during CinemaCon last year, is one of Paramount's buzziest titles heading in 2024, especially now that Mission: Impossible 8 has been pushed to 2025. Luckily, with Ryan Reynolds headlining, this is one that surely can't be missed and should serve as a nice appetizer to his second release of the summer: Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3

The massive ensemble cast features Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Louis Gossett Jr., Fiona Shaw, Bobby Moynihan, and Alan Kim, with the imaginary friends being voiced by Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Vince Vaughn, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Awkwafina, Jon Stewart, and Richard Jenkins.

With several major releases like WonkaAquaman and the Lost KingdomMigration, Anyone But YouThe Color Purple, and Ferrari all due out within the next few days, we'd imagine this brand-new trailer will be attached to, at least, a few of those films, so be sure to arrive early if you want to catch IF on the big screen before its Summer 2024 release date.

In addition to IF, Paramount's 2024 release calendar is shaping up to be quite impressive with a lineup including Mean Girls (January 12), The Tiger's Apprentice (February 2), Bob Marley: One Love (February 14), A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28), Transformers One (September 13), Smile 2 (October 18), Gladiator 2 (November 22), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (December 20).

IF hits theaters on May 17, 2024!

Watch the new trailer and a behind-the-scenes featurette below:

What if everything you believed as a kid was real? From the imagination of John Krasinski, enter a world you have to believe to see. Watch the new trailer for #IFMovie - Only in theatres May 2024. Starring Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Bobby Moynihan, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina, and Steve Carell.

From writer and director John Krasinski, IF is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. IF stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, and the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell alongside many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child’s imagination.

@EZBeast - Friday thought I had too. It’s literally a very, thinly veiled Foster’s

@Baf - drop dead Fred is about an imaginary friend who is essentially haunting the little girl that created him.

This and fosters are both about adopting imaginary friends whose kids have grown up so they are seeking to be adopted by new kids.

Maybe Ryan did this as a favour so he'd cameo as the smartest man alive in DP3.

@HashTagSwagg - I thought you meant Ryan as Mr Fantastic then. I'd love to see that. Ryan and Blake as Reed and Sue. Pay good money for that.

So it's the battle of the imaginary friend movies in 2024. Which one will come out on top? Imaginary or IF

@MasterMix - I hate when this happens. Surely studios are aware that they’re making the same shit and cannibalizing each other.

@GameOn - ones I think a horror film and the other seems like a family fantasy film.

@TheVisionary25 @GameOn - Yeah I just watched the trailers for both and I don't think they have to worry about competing with each other too much being as about the only thing they seem to have in common is the term "imaginary friend". Kinda like the sequel to "Brightburn" and "Superman:Legacy".

They are remaking Mean Girls? WTF for? That original film was great...and not overly dated, is it?

@Izaizaiza - this was my EXACT reaction to seeing that. i literally just watched this the other night with my fiancé and it STILL holds up extremely well today. what a stupid move on their part

@Izaizaiza - it’s not a proper “remake” per se. They’ve made it into a musical.

Ryan Reynolds besides Deadpool had picked some really terrible movies to star in.

@SirDuckAlot - Free guy was ok, Life was Ok, self/less i thought was cool, Mississipi Grind???, the voices? Safe house? BURIED!!.

I mean yeah he's had his fair share of duds...he's no oscar contender, but i'd say hes had his fair share and seems to be doing better with age...

Range....that's another debate.

FriendoGhus - 12/14/2023, 4:31 PM
@SirDuckAlot - really you think so, I'd say he has a pretty nice run overall across a bunch of different genres van wilder, waiting, just friends, the nines, buried, the voices, detective Pikachu, free guy, the Adam project, are all either good or at least pretty decent. Sure he has some bad ones but I'd argue he's done really well for himself taking his limited range into account.

@AmazingFILMporg - It seems like a good family movie. Not gonna lie, as someone who doesn't have kids, I was hoping for something more adulty, specially with that cast.

Had no idea they were making another Transformers movie, thats new to me. Mean Girls remake is an awful idea, first one is still a gem. This movie itself looks decent enough... may check it out.

A Quiet Place is the only one im Def seeing next year

My kids are going to love this. I might check it out too. Ya know, for quality control. Make sure there's no graphic violence or nudity. That kind of stuff. Like a responsible parent. Wearing a Spider-Man onesy. A grown up responsible Spider-Man onesy. Yeah that's it.
