"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, James Nesbitt, William Kircher, Aidan Turner, Dean O’Gorman, Mark Hadlow, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown and Stephen Hunter

I thought 'An Unexpected Journey' was an excellent movie. Way underrated. But frankly, they need to up the stakes, because what with the CGI orcs and all...it just wasn't the same.

The movie was great, but frankly the CGI was not up to it especially considering that the LOTR trilogy was released all those years back. I especially hated the fake looking Goblin King, the Orc arch enemy (i keep forgetting his name), the ogres and the wargs with their silly cartoony "evil" look.

@Jollem, I love that pic, but wouldn't you think Thor would be more apt for the mage, and Iron Man as the fighter?

@AgentMothman
Except Thor is much more a close range fighter where Iron Man is almost purely a ranged fighter using energy. Your right Thor is not purely a fighter I would probably say he is more closely associated with a Battlemage who uses spells but still up on the front lines fighting. Though if we are talking basic D&D classes here then Thor would be a fighter and Iron Man a mage.

I went into the Hobbit, next expecting anything and I thoroughly enjoyed every scene. I didn't see what was wrong with the special effects.

The special effects looked way to cartoony, especially in comparison to the effects from LotR ten years ago which looked great

I loved the Hobbit, never expected it to be as good as LotR, I was just happy to revisit Middle Earth.
