UPDATE: From One Batman To Another...Could Christian Bale Star In THE STAND?

The fraternity of Batman should become a thing. Ben Aflleck was previously attached to The Stand but dropped out presumably to carve out space for Batman vs Superman. Could a former Batman salvage Affleck's two year project?

Screenwriter Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace) replaced Ben Affleck as director and writer on WB's adaptation of The Stand and in speaking with MTV recently about Out of the Furnace, Cooper hints that Christian Bale may be in line to star. In the video above, Scott spoke about the strong relationship he's formed with Bale and his hope to bring Bale aboard the project.

Previously, Ben Affleck spent two years trying to hammer down the script on the Stephen King adaptation but his recent decision to star as Bruce Wayne in Batman vs Superman meant he had to vacate the director's chair on The Stand. Assuming Cooper does indeed get Bale aboard, would he play the villainous Randall Flagg or one of the many pseudo-protagonists of the Free Zone?

Marvel Comics adapted The Stand into a comic book miniseries in 2008.

UPDATE: Well, perhaps Bale won't be joining The Stand after all.
