Jon M. Chu's upcoming adaptation of his Broadway musical, Wicked Part One, arrives in theaters this November, and Warner Bros. has now released two new character posters for the movie.

These banners give us another look at the movie's leads, Glinda (Ariana Grande), and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).

Wicked tells the story of how a shy green-skinned woman named Elphaba becomes a cackling villain with an aversion to water we first met in The Wizard of Oz. Erivo stars as Elphaba, who will ultimately become the "Wicked Witch of the West," while pop megastar Grande will play Glinda, aka "Good Witch of the East."

It's probably not a major to spoiler to note that their friendship doesn't last!

Check out the most recent trailer below, along with another poster and BTS featurette, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season. Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The film also stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).

Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.

@Izaizaiza - Should be more than enough here for your daughter to love in regard to the fun aspects and musical numbers.

My main hope however is enough of the subtext of the original book it is based on remains with the exploration about political propaganda and how such things can turn a person pure of heart/intent fighting against a dictatorial regime into at least a percieved evil terrorist rather than freedom fighter.

The main interesting thing of it all narratively is how in many ways Glinda starts out as the evil bitch, Elphaba the good one who become friends then circumstances and wider societal perceptions resulting in them ending up switching places to the opposing extremes and enemies.

I am OK however if it is JUST a fun family movie, would just prefer it is more than just that.

@Apophis71 - That's a great interpretation! I would love for it to be a deeper show like that. I have to admit, I don't know anything about the stage play. Regardless, I'm going, so fingers crossed

@Izaizaiza - The book was to WoZ what Joker film is to Batman, as in the author wanted to explore the concept of good and evil and what drives people to become one or the other and simply looked for an iconic 2dimensional fictional villain to use rather than looking at RL ones like Hitler.

...ie it isn't canon to the official world of Oz, just uses that well know world and it's characters to great effect...

...not seen the stage play to know exactly how close to the source it is, but do love the soundtrack is all I can say and the narrative remains similar I believe even if the subtext may be lost to many under the bubblegum stuff.

I bet this will be just as gigantic a hit as the Wiz and both Annie remakes.

I predict it will earn half a billion pennies!

@DocSpock - The alleged budget for this one is relatively low at $145 million, so it might actually turn a profit.

@Feralwookiee -

I will admit, I saw Wicked in its original run on Broadway. It was fantastic.

@DocSpock - I just can't do musicals.
Although, I did sit through the movie version of Cats and was in awe and stupified by what I was witnessing.
It ALMOST crossed over into so-bad-it's-"good" territory for me, but not quite.
I'd did "appreciate" it as a bizarre, surreal, misguided trainwreck though. 🤪

Otherwise, musicals are a slog for me.

@Feralwookiee -

I have seen 5 Broadway musicals. All were great, but I am VERY choosy. I doubt I will ever go back to New York again anyway.

Cats, Lion King, The Producers, Wicked, Annie. The Producers was sooo dirty and so good. The others were kid/family service.

I think this looks decent (though I have never seen the musical) !!.

The visuals & cast seem good , especially Cynthia Erivo and even Ariana imo.

Oof. I forgot about this one.

I just finally saw The Wiz year ago and it was great, so I'll get around to this one eventually.

Aerola Grande is a good fit for the role. Like her or not she has the vocal chops.

I'm not too familiar with the other Broadway actress.

Just curious.....but is she gay? Tell me she's queer. I feel like it's required by Hollywood law nowadays. Is she? Is she? I know I can look it up, but someone just tell me I'm wrong.
