THE WALKING DEAD Actor Norman Reedus On GHOST RIDER Casting Rumor: "Fingers Crossed"

Though it was really more speculation than rumor, recent online chatter suggested that The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus might be in line to play Ghost Rider in The MCU. Now, the actor has responded.

Norman Reedus has addressed recent online scuttlebutt that he could be in line to play Ghost Rider in the MCU, and it sounds like there might just be something to the rumor.

Fans began to speculate that Reedus may have either been cast as or in talks to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's rebooted take on Ghost Rider back in December when insiders claimed that Marvel Studios had been speaking with an actor (not fan-favorite pick Keanu Reeves) about the role, and it would be a very exciting choice if the deal were to be finalized.

Marvel aficionadas immediately began to share their own theories, and Reedus liked several Tweets calling on him to don the mantle of the Spirit of Vengeance in The MCU.

We never had much to go on here, but ComicBook.com asked the actor about the rumor during an interview, and he gave a very interesting response. "Fingers crossed," he told the site. "I don't know. There's been a lot of talk over the last couple years. I do not have an answer for you."

Does Reedus know something we don't, or is he simply hoping to get that call from Kevin Feige?

As for which iteration of the flame-headed hero we might see when he does eventually tear his way into the MCU, rumors have indicated that it will not be Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes (who have featured in the previous Ghost Rider movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., respectively), which still leaves Danny Ketch, Alejandra Jones, Kushala or perhaps even an all-new incarnation of the character.

Possible spoilers follow.

Though we don't know how accurate the details are, a recent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness "leak" mentioned that Reedus actually appears as Ghost Rider in the upcoming sequel. This was just one of many surprise castings that were supposedly revealed, but there may be no truth to any of them.

I wouldn't mind him portraying Johnny Blaze while the movie focuses on Danny Ketch. Would make for a cool double Ghost Rider story with Blaze already existing as the Spirit of Vengeance.

@SonOfAGif - Cage back for Blaze for one movie to redeem and reintroduce the character, then 2nd movie introduces a young Danny Ketch.
This guy for Mephisto as he has the cheekbones for it.

@Corruptor - But then does that make the Cage movie cannon? Yikes.

Can't think of anyone else I'd want more for Johnny Blaze.

can you imagine seeing a canonized universe where we see Spiderman(Tobey), Hulk(Bana), Ghost Rider(Cage), and Mr.Fantastic(Gruffudd) pop up somewhere doing some fantastic four stuff? random for this article, but it got me thinking weirdly.

@JustBrootal - that would be weird, but pretty cool. Even just a glimpse of it in a Multiverse trip is enough

Wouldn’t mind seeing him as a one off (would be perfect as an alternate version in MoM maybe), but considering he is 53 years old already I would want them to look for someone a bit younger, if they intent to keep Ghost Rider around for a while

The way he eats, like a carrion bird, I wonder how he eats pizza. Just pokes holes all on it with his beak hands? Like the crow on Beetlejuice eating who knows what

Yeah, he would have been a great fit, but at his current age, and the gap between movies he wouldn’t last long. Not being agest, just realistic. We need a young Johnny Blaze so they can carry a GR franchise for at least a few movies. If he started filming now at 53, by the time he got to complete a trilogy he’d be 60.

I hate to say it, but it’s the truth. Keanu would have been great too, but he’s aged out also.

@MuadDib - Considering that most of the action would be done by a CGI character, I'm not sure his age would be a dealbreaker.

@MuadDib - They could go the Ant-Man route and have Reedus as Blaze and have him pass the torch to a younger actor playing Danny Ketch.
