BOX OFFICE: G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Surprises! Opens With A Whopping $10.5 million!

Usually moving your opening back by eight months is not a good sign. But in this case, Jon Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation hasn't suffered one bit from the delay, as it has hauled in $10.5 million at the box office already. Come see what audiences are grading it.

Summer of 2012, Paramount shocked many when they decided to push back the opening of G.I. Joe: Retaliation to March of 2013. At the time they said the move was necessary so that they could convert the film to 3D. I and many others assumed that the delay would have a negative impact on the film's opening, but it overcame that with a solid two day effort.

It began Wednesday night (midnight showings), with a very pleasant $2.25 million and continued with a strong Thursday that pushed it's two day total to $10.5 million. The news keeps getting better as Deadline reports that the film has been receiving an ‘A-’ CinemaScore from audiences, which by the way trumps the ‘B+’ grade that 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra received. Now, chances of the film topping $50 million this Easter weekend are looking more than likely, which will make Paramount execs breathe easier.

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy, Cobra, they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe® characters. March 29th, 2013!

Haters...haters, where are you now?

Money talks...BS walks. Not trying to be funny or anything, but some folk round here act as if the movie was pure trash. Ok, the guy started his career in another genre...you have to start somewhere. I hope he learns from this experience, and in the end brings us a better Joe movie next time (not to mention a good Masters of the Universe film).

For what it is, it's a good entertainment. I had a lot of fun with it. I hate G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but it's pretty good to see how it acknowledges a lot of things from its predecessor and make a move from there, although some parts seem to be bland, poor excuses for changes. The absolute worst thing about it comes in three letters, though.

I'm glad it's doing well. Going to see it tomorrow. I want them to make a 3rd where they don't need to have any ties to the first one. Re-cast Baroness (with Milla J) and Destro, that would be cool.

If Chu gets the chance to make a third one, I can imagine it being 10 times better. No ties to the first film is definitely better. Looking forward to seeing this, hold its at least fun to watch.

It's crap. Just because people are flocking to it doesn't change that - people flock to Resident Evil movies.

I really wish people would stop using Rotten Tomatoes as a judge on how good a movie is, and if they wont see it because of said low rating. It is such a crappy site and is FULL of jagoffs that just love to TROLL. Who really gives a shit about that?

OH NO!! a website full of users rated it bad. Do you know how many "bad" movies are actually good? A [frick]ING TON!!

Mindless zombies that follow the word of shit like that drives me nuts.
