Director John Chu Offers An Update On The Status Of G.I. JOE 3

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu recently sat down with ComingSoon.net and the subject turned to the third "G.I. Joe" film. Says Chu...

"I love being active in world-building, so we're working on "G.I. Joe 3" right now. We're designing tons of stuff, which takes a little bit, but to me, that's obviously where I like to push myself and where I want to be for a long time and get to know better...I'm excited to bring in new characters and fun things beyond Bruce and Dwayne that we're working on and some great villains, but we're forming those ideas now. I'm really excited - it's going to be a whole ‘nother level."

Chu also addressed the rumors on Channing Tatum's possible return saying...

"It all gets carried away again. They asked me about Channing and I don't know. You never know in these movies, and that's all I said, and suddenly it became "Channing Tatum might be back." To me, every possibility is open and we're writing the script right now and we're figuring everything out. It's an extremely low possibility when you kill somebody like that, it's pretty much it, but you never know with "G.I. Joe." We did that with Storm Shadow, too."

No release date has been announced but Chu says they hope to start production in 2014.

"I think we're going to be shooting next year. We're pretty motivated to get that up."

Chu will direct the third installment from a screenplay by Evan Daugherty (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

What do you think about a third "G.I. Joe" film?

Storm Shadow just got cut really bad and fell into ice water which kept him from bleeding to death cause it froze the wound.

That's how he survived. Duke simply died. Deal with it.

Well, the 2nd movie was about 100x better than the 1st but then, about 90 minutes of flies buzzing around a dog turd would have been 100x better than the 1st movie so it's not saying a lot, really.

We actually didnt see Duke die..we saw an explosion...and then everyone was down...there is nothing there that says (SPOILER) while they were down in the well duke wasnt wounded n crawling away only to be captured...do that in pre-intro credits and then base the first scene on rescuing "Duke" from some installation..Done.

No Channing,Duke is dead & it makes it seem there are real consequences to war.
Let Flint take the lead...a much better character, looked cooler & was tapping Lady Jaye regularly.
More Snake Eyes..he's the Wolverine of GI JOE,not a side character. Do It!

Roadblock is already in charge. Who's leading is not really in question as the Rock will most certainly be back.

Duke could still come back and there is a consequence of war. I mean, a bunch of soldiers died during that assault, not just Duke. Duke is easy to bring back, they could even have him pulling the mind control villain gig to tie into one which would allow them to bring the Baroness back and can totally end with her returning to the side of Cobra! In fact, find Scarlet, we need her back too.

I didn't think two was bad, other than the slow walking escape of Cobra Commander. That was terrible.

Shouldn't they do everyone a favor and just donate the money they would spend filming to starving kids somewhere? As bad as the first one was, it was a masterpiece compared to the 2nd one. They need to start over with a competent writer and director. Just make the GI Joe Resolute into live action if they insist on making another one.

Duke is dead. You see the explosion begin to lift his body before they cut away. If he's not dead, then he probably makes "Post-lava bath Anakin Skywalker" look like a [frick]ing male model.

I actually just found a shot of Duke in the afterlife. Apparently, he must have been a bad boy because it looks like hell.
