Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Teases Third Instalment Of G.I. JOE Franchise

The success of G.I. Joe: Retaliation meant that Paramount wasted no time in giving a sequel the green light, and Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock) talks here about bringing more characters to life on the big screen for the next instalment and utilising 3D even more impressively.

In an interview with Collider, Dwayne Johnson has seemingly confirmed his involvement in the recently announced sequel to G.I. Joe: Retaliation (not that it was ever in doubt) by expressing his excitement about the follow-up and teasing what Paramount has planned. While it wasn't exactly a masterpiece, I thought the movie was a lot of fun and it was nice to see a blockbuster actually make effective use of 3D. You can read my review by clicking HERE. Are you excited about the follow-up? Check out Johnson's comments below and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

"What we would love to do with the sequel to G.I. Joe, which will definitely happen—we set ourselves up nicely with this past G.I. Joe because we really paid attention with respected homage to the mythology. And now that we’ve redesigned that foundation of the mythology, there are many places to go. There are phenomenal G.I. Joe characters who we can bring to life, we’re all talking about it now, and certainly [thinking about] using the 3D platform in even better ways for the next one, so, I’m very excited about that."

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonventura and Brian Goldner, from screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I Joe characters.

STARRING:

Channing Tatum as Duke
Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock
Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton
Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye
Ray Park as Snake Eyes
Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow
Ray Stevenson as Firefly
RZA as Blind Master
Arnold Vosloo as Zartan
D.J. Cotrona as Flint
Elodie Yung as Jinx

They can still pull the Duke isn't dead fast one. Duke wasn't killed by the explosion of the hummer, just wounded and put into A COMA. When Firefly and his team arrived, they took Duke, put his tags on a decoy body and left with him with the plan to reprogram him like they did Baroness. If Tatum wants to come back, easy fix. If not, Duke is still dead and done.

"paying homage to GI Joe mythology"

Snake Eyes/ Storm Shadow - YES
Zartan killing Hard Master - YES
Joe Colton - YES
Roadblock as a badass - YES

Uniforms - NOPE, they looked the same, like it was a Modern Warfare game. Where was Flint's beret? At the end when everyone else was wearing it?
Artillery & Weapons - Nope. Where were Lady Jaye's Javelins? Each Joe pretty much had their own special weapon (the exception are the Ninjas, RBlock)

Please make the Joes look different from each other.

Played homeage to the mythology? Really, Dwayne? Last I check, Duke didn't die in the 2nd episode of the cartoon or the 2nd comic book of G.I. Joe.

Let's face it, G.I. Joe Retaliation was a movie that sucked. I mean Snakes Eyes whole story in the film was pointless, it basically gave him something to do, while he wasn't with the team.

Honestly, I think that whole part of the script was used just to make an excuse for why 3D was used in the movie at all. Even though I will say the mountain scene was probably the best part of the film, which is sad, because the finale was pretty lackluster than that mountain scene.

G.I. Joe Retailation isn't the first movie that sucked, but made a lot of money. Transformers 1-2 anyone?(You could probably count the 3rd one in there too).

The first 20 minutes of the film(prior to Duke dying), was the best parts of the film. After that, the movie just continued to go downhill from there.

@DarthJericho: the relationship between Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow in this movie is pretty close to the one they had in the comics. In Marvel's series, Hard Master was killed by Zartan. Storm Shadow had invited Snake Eyes to train with his family and Hard Master chose Snake Eyes to lead the clan. This caused the rift between SS & SE. The change here wasn't done for convenience. It was done for plot correction and furtherance from the first film.

I don't get how there can be another one of these films & WB still can't bring the DC universe to the big screen. Yes we may be getting another Superman movie but outside of that not much else. Plus this before Hellboy III that sucks. Well I guess it is good news for people that want more. So I am happy for them & that the studio made money. Though if I had my choice I would prefer another toy franchise to this one & that would be He Man.

dwayne's a fag. lol. can't beat the first. hahaha. kidding.. retaliation was action-packed but in my opinion storm shadow was like at the "supposed-to-be-level" of snake eyes (who i think almost became an extra for the movie)

Cobra Island and Serpentor story lines are obvious directions to head in. These stories would be about Cobra solidifying and expanding its military power, and GI Joe working against them. The Serpentor/Cobra La thing can't be verbatim what it was in the 80s - that's too far-fetched. Serpentor could be the result of a Cobra super soldier program that went bad, and as a result, the soldier seeks to take control of the organization. Cobra La could be an age-old secret society that has the intent of taking control of the world, and reshaping it in its image. These honor the classic concepts, but those concepts have to be realigned to be more plausible and palatable.

Dukey has a "D" on his little armor and Rocky Roadblock has a little "R" on his armor.., so that our youth's minds can wrap the fact as to who which character is. :-P Why is Roadblock the only character left on the pegs besides the sneak-eyes(snake eyes that's packaged with other assortments, priced the same, but consists of half the articulation as the more wanted limited packed version)? Hmmm. :-P

Whatever. Whatev's. Bring on the 3rd. GI Joe: Rehabilitation
