The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Indonesian actor Iko Uwais (The Raid, The Raid 2) has joined the cast of Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Hasbro's upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff, Snake Eyes as the titular hero's tough as nails teacher and skilled sword master, Hard Master.

He joins a cast that will also feature Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians; Last Christmas) as Snake Eyes and Andrew Koji (Warrior; Fast & Furious 6) as his brother/archenemy Storm Shadow.

Plot details remain under wraps, but the film is said to follow the fan-favorite ninja commando as he seeks revenge for his father's death by joining a ninja clan and in the process finding acceptance.

Robert Schwentke (REDR.I.P.D.) has been tapped to direct with a script from Evan Spiliotopoulos (Charlie's Angels; Beauty and the Beast).

Production is expected to begin this fall in Vancouver before later moving to Tokyo.

@BlackBeltJones -

Quite possibly the best pure action flick of the last decade, just is tense and does not let up at all.
Glad to see Iko Uwais getting more work.
Also he is the spitting image of my Sister in Laws, brother.

Is Hard Master the one The RZA played in Retaliation?

@MrCamw1 - That was the Blind Master, who in the original comics was also African-American.

He's too young for this part, barely older than his 2 pupils. That said: the cast is mighty fine so far!

If they act like the first 2 movies didn't happen and this is separate, I'll give it a shot. If it's just a sequel/prequel, I won't watch. I'm still waiting on my Redbox refund for the other two. They were atrocious!

The director and writer are making it real hard to get excited about this lol. Happy Iko's joined the cast though.

@HeavyMetal4Life -

Man, if they can get Donnie Yen in this as well, I would not be able to handle it
