"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

@ SuperGuy83

It would be nice to mention events in MOS, do not go crazy every episode and drop MOS that will get annoying.

The fact of the matter is that, because the show is on The CW, there's always going to be a lame soap opera element to the show.

With that said, for season 1 they did a good job of sweeping the love triangle under the rug after the first 4 or 5 episodes, and it doesn't get rekindled until right around the second to last episode of the season.

Hope that helps!

It can be that way sometimes, but overall its a good show and super fun to watch. It was just recently all put up on Netflix so the first season is all there in its glory. I'd say watch it for sure.

@ Beto

The show is great, the only part you could get hung up is the young hot actors (it is on CW). The only soap opera moments that stick is regarding Oliver Queen's little sister, who is annoying as hell.

But that is overshadowed by the action, costumes, storylines, and characters straight out of the comic books. Also I think everyone will agree this has some of the best fight scenes and one of the best season finales for a show like this.

Give this show a chance the first few episodes are okay but it gets really good.

Exactly, I dare someone whose seen all 23 episodes of this to insult it so harshly.

The soap opera element is what keeps 90 percent of the audience, WHICH ARE non comic book fans. I think the showrunners do a brilliant job tying in comic elements while succumbing to that audience.

The haters here are annoying and should GTFO.

The show found its footing and it's in my top 5 most anticipated now. Perhaps even top 3 now that Breaking Bad is over.

It is okay MAC! You can stick to AOS if you like.
thewonderer
thewonderer - 10/9/2013, 1:11 PM
MAC, you can stick to your Marvel properties.

Thor The Dark World is sounding more exciting by the second. I hear they're filming scenes with Jane and her boyfriend Richard.

Yep, hope we get a MoS mention, but that is all I would want.

When I would want it would be the question.

As do we get it before The Flash arrives, otherwise Flash might be the first super-powered being, or after.

I would like a couple of mentions before, maybe after they meet Ollie they mention a line like:

"First Starling then Metropolis, two of our brightest cities gone"

Or -- Just before introducing powers like The Flash's

"With what happened in Metropolis, the world has changed, science, technology, we're not limited by human design anymore"

So we establish we are in the wider universe, which allows for powers to exist and we don't over do it.

Maybe they will surprise us, by mentioning what happened in Metropolis...maybe not.

@ Almight

I agree the face paint is stupid, needs to upgrade to a mask and start to transition to the name Green Arrow

As far as the rogues, I think we will see them slowly progress with baddies who have powers.

@Almight
They're calling him Green Arrow in season 2, what do you think they're teasing in one of the trailers?
Every superhero costume is dumb, face paint is going to stop you from watching a TV show?
Copy cats? I do not recall copy cats you haven't even watched the show.
Batman Rogues used:
Deadshot, Firefly and Ra's Al Ghul (potentially)
That's it
The romance is actually well done. The Tommy/Laurel subplot is actually kinda good. Oliver takes things as an adult and not a teenager and approves of Tommy and Laurel together. If it doesn't tickle your fancy, one of the three die so there won't be a love triangle in season 2.
Kyos

I watched the first 4 episodes of S1, then 4 in the middle, and the final 4 episodes again. They didn't make me want to watch the rest. :/

I'll give season 2 a chance, though.
TheDude
TheDude - 10/9/2013, 1:27 PM
I really like the show. It would be neat if they referenced Metropolis in some way ( you know, cuz over half of it was destroyed).
And I'm pretty sure they've said they're going to transition to him using the name green arrow. So here lookin forward to tonight!

I'm glad nobody has a problem with how easily Oliver murders criminals yet bitch when Superman kills one alien bent on destroying the entire planet. Hopefully if they connect this series and Flash with the DCCU they will have Batman confront Green Arrow about all those dead criminals Oliver is responsible for.
