LANTERNS: A GEN V Star Is Rumoured To Be Playing The DCU's Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

While this is a rumour which should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt, a lead star from Gen V - from a famous family - is said to be in the mix to play the DCU's Hal Jordan in Max's Lanterns...

Yesterday evening, we shared some "verified" rumours from the r/DCEULeaks Reddit page. Now, with the news cycle grinding to a halt due to Thanksgiving (we hope you're all having a great day), we have a few "unverified" claims to help pass the time while you're waiting for that turkey to come out of the oven.

The biggest relates to DC Studios' upcoming Lanterns TV series. The character has been missing from our screens since 2011's Green Lantern but it's said the Max project will comprise 10 episodes, with Nathan Fillion set to appear in at least three of them as Superman: Legacy's Guy Gardner.

Here's the big news, though: Gen V star Patrick Schwarzenegger (the son of Hollywood icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger) is supposedly being eyed to play Hal Jordan. It doesn't sound like an offer has been made, though James Gunn did recently follow the actor on Instagram. Take that as you will.

As well as playing Golden Boy in The Boys, Schwarzenegger counts Scream Queens, The Staircase, and The Terminal List among his other credits.

It's added that the plan is for Lanterns to be the first DCU TV series to hit Max post-Superman: Legacy, an idea which makes sense with Gardner confirmed to appear in the reboot.

In the comics, Hal Jordan is one of Earth's Green Lanterns. A former military test pilot, he is now the protector of Sector 2814 and a founding member of the Justice League. Later in his history, he became a villain in the "Emerald Twilight" storyline after being left traumatised by Mongul's destruction of Coast City.

As "Parallax," he threatened to destroy the universe and killed many of his fellow Green Lanterns; however, a handy retcon revealed that Hal had been corrupted by the personification of fear that later powered the villainous Sinestro Corps.

In other DCU news, the same post claims that a Lobo movie is indeed in the works with Jason Momoa set to star as the Main Man. The project, which is supposedly a mix of the Western and sci-fi genres, will see Lobo hunting down a rogue Green Lantern, all while bonding with his daughter, Crush.

On the page, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 and is an alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia who works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter.

As always, you can let us know your thoughts on these possible Lanterns and Lobo updates in the comments section.

I’m not too familiar with Patrick’s work so far (haven’t seen Gen V as of yet) but he did well in Terminal List even though it wasn’t a big role.

Looks wise , I could maybe see it aswell so i would give him a shot if it’s true though i would need to be sold on him.

@TheVisionary25 - He's a serviceable actor, but I've only seen him in a couple things, but there's no stand out quality i can see him bringing in. Hal Jordan (depending on who's writing him) though comes across as a pretty boring character in my opinion, but i guess it could work. Hes young enough to cast now and have him stick around for 10 to 20 years if it's a success.

“Rumor”
“taken with a pinch of salt”
“Here's the big news, though…”

He was solid enough in Gen V but I think there’s plenty of options with more experience out there.

@GhostDog - it’s typecasting but my choice is still Glen Powell

@TheVisionary25 - it’s the best Hal casting out there. An easy slam dunk

@TheVisionary25 - he played Hal Jordan in Top Gun 2. He’s the ONLY choice for Green Lantern in my opinion That’s like Patrick Stewart for Professor X, there’s no better casting.

@TheVisionary25 - I feel like Glen would make a better Booster Gold, even Cyclops

Could see it. Don't know if he can act cuz gen v is terrible and I can't get 20 mins into ep 1. Not my first choice but I trust Gunn and that casting director. I also really look forward to Lobo. I've been copping Omega Men 3 for awhile in prep. Need to scoop a couple first apps of Crush although I feel like it's a bit early to bring her in. But Gunn likes his daddy stuff.

@McMurdo - Gen V was ridiculous and fun. Patrick was surprisingly good in it too. I did not expect him to be good at all, but I could see him as Hal for sure.

@Shivermetimbers - I really enjoyed Gen V, but I don’t think he’s right for Hal. I wish I could point to specific reasons things, but my gut says no

I have no issues with Nathan Fillion, but I have always thought that Alan Ritchson would make the PERFECT Guy Gardner. If you've ever watched BMS tv series (Blue Mountain State), you'd see he would be the perfect Gardner.

As far as Hal goes, I have no idea who would be perfect for him.

@lazlodaytona - Negative, he should have been and still should be Shazam. Some black hair dye and bam, you have a super accurate Shazam. Plus he has comedic timing too and can def play the childish part well.

No padding necessary

@lazlodaytona - Ritchson badly wants to play Aquaman on the big screen....

@jst5 - he already did that on Smallville
either way I love the dude. he seriously has some range as an actor; comedic to seriousness. hope he can get a more high-profile role soon

@lazlodaytona - He's said in interviews he still wants to play the role on the big screen.

Not...who I would've picked, but if this nepo baby's got even a fraction of the charisma and screen presence that his daddy had then we should be good lol.

(Btw wasn't Hal originally supposed to be played a bigger name? Or was that just an assumption?).
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 11/23/2023, 9:38 AM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - who would be your pick?

Also , I think that was just an assumption or maybe even rumor

Who knows at this point lol

@TheVisionary25 - Tbh I don't think I have an actor in mind that fully embodys Hal, I think Aaron Taylor Johnson would do well in the role (but I think that's because I just like him as an actor in general), I've also seen people online bringing up Garrett Hedlund's (Tron: Legacy) name as well who I don't hate for the role either.

I thought he was decent in Gen V. Could definitely see him suiting the role.

@Godzilla2000Zer - I do agree but he is the same age as David Corenswet (30) , he just has a young face.

@TheVisionary25 - Oh ok that's makes but still wonder why they cast Nathan Fillion as Guy

From Lou Ferrigno to Arnold Jr., for some reason green comic characters have a muscle beach legacy it seems
MuadDib
MuadDib - 11/23/2023, 9:59 AM
The only reason I could see Gunn wanting to go so young for Hal, is bc he plans on a long arc that will take years. That said, not sure Golden Boy is the perfect pick, but the casting on Legacy so far has been on point. If that casting director is now casting the entirety of the DCU, I’m willing to go along with it a bit further
