SUPERMAN: LEGACY Leak Reveals That At Least Four More Major Roles Have Yet To Be Filled In DCU Reboot

Since the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, a number of actors have been added to the cast of Superman: Legacy. However, a new leak claims to reveal at least four more major characters James Gunn is looking to fill.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn started putting together his Superman: Legacy cast earlier this year, only for that process to be halted by the Hollywood strikes. Well, SAG-AFTRA members are once again free to negotiate, and it's been a busy week for the DCU reboot.

In recent days, we've learned that Gabriela de Faría will play The Engineer, with Sara Sampaio joining the movie as Eve Teschmacher and Skyler Gisondo tapped for Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult, meanwhile, appears to be a lock for Lex Luthor.

The r/DCEULeaks moderators have today shared some "verified" information, claiming that an offer has been made to an actor for the role of The Daily Planet's Editor-in-Chief, Perry White. As a result, he's expected to be among the next wave of announcements.

Gunn is said to be on the hunt for Ma and Pa Kent, with actors in their 50s - 70s who are "lesser-known" names thought to be among those he's currently circling for two of the most important figures in Clark Kent's life.

Finally, the group reports that Superman: Legacy is searching for a male in his 40s - 50s for a comedic role that's more than likely Steve Lombard. He appeared in All-Star Superman, one of Gunn's biggest sources of inspiration, and is another Daily Planet mainstay.

It also appears Brainiac will be the reboot's big bad, though there's still no word on who might play him (unless Gunn is planning a crazy bait-and-switch with Hoult).

Oh, and if you've been enjoying seeing this case come together, Gunn has reportedly turned to Superman: Legacy casting director John Papsidera to serve in that role for almost the entire DCU. That will make him the equivalent of Marvel Studios' Sarah Halley Finn. His past credits include Oppenheimer and Yellowstone.

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

It's also been reported that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell may be in the running for Jor-El (there's no word on Ma and Pa Kent or whether they're even alive in this iteration of Clark Kent's story). There's currently no word on who is playing Brainiac following rumours he'll serve as the reboot's big bad.

Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

@TheVisionary25 - I would be okay with all but McHale. He does not look like a former NFL quarterback.

It's extremely important to get the Kents right, especially Jonathan, yo.

Once again, the SV version is the BEST version, better than even...heh, the comics, i must say.

wow. if they get that guy who casted Oppenheimer and Yellowstone to do ALL the DCU movies like sarah does for MCU... then the DCU is cooking. That dude put together one of the MOST impressive casts ever assembled in Oppenheimer. I have my doubts with the slate and directors for the DCU, but, this cast has been solid.

Looking forward to seeing if Gunn can pull this off.
I think Joker 2 is the only DC movie out next year, so a nice little break from comic book movies.

Russel is 72 why is Jor El elderly ? Plus he was Star Lords father in Guardians 2 and I don't think Gunn would be that lazy.

@JFerguson - This 100%. Weisz would kill it as Mystique and Craig has been fancast as Magneto for awhile now.

Steve Lombard was already in man of steel, but you never would’ve known it. He was barely if it all referred to my name, and had none of the obnoxious personality of Steve Lombard, who is based on Joe Namath.

@RolandD - all I really remember of him was Lois taking a jab at him to date the interns or something in Man of Steel

Do you really need inside info to know this? Only Steve Lombard surprises me. Kinda just expected Ma & Pa Kent, Jor-El & Lara, Sam Lane or a bunch of Authority members instead

Brendan Fraser as Jonathan Kent please.

The question is: Who will they DEI? They haven't done much of that yet.

Perry White extremely likely. There don't seem to be that many more characters for them to do that to. The Authority people?

Braniac probably. Ma & Pa Kent? Uh oh.

I’d like to see Robin Wright for Martha Kent

@Timerider - she would be great. I am pulling for jamie lee curtis for martha kent. Of robin gets martha, then i recommend getting cary elwes for jonathan kent

@CaptainFlapjaks - I was thinking the same thing with Cary, but I think we need someone a little more rough around the edges. I was thinking either Gerard Butler

or Eric Bana

If I had to choose, I would pick Gerard Butler for Jonathan Kent. This actor knows how to cry and how to die on screen, he’s very good at it. I could see him with Robin Wright.

@Timerider - honestly, i think it is time we got a superman story closer to the animated series where Jonathan is still alive. But yeah i could see butler and wright as a couple.

Before The Marvels disaster, I figured Gunn's Superman Legacy might do $600-$700 million, then other DCPedoverse movies would drop off. Now it looks like they will be lucky to get Legacy to $250 million.

WB has been operating on the assumption that DC movies were entitled to make Marvel money, which is why they gave Snyder so much money to waste of trash, blew a couple hundred million on the JJ Abrams failure, and were ready to give Gunn a lot of money. Now they will lower expectations, lower budgets, and give Gunn a shorter leash. Some of his announced movies will never happen. Lobo will probably never happen.

If The Batman 2 makes more than Legacy, they might just ax the DCPedoverse after one movie, forget trying to have a Marvel shared universe and just hope for more Batman and Joker movies.
