DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn started putting together his Superman: Legacy cast earlier this year, only for that process to be halted by the Hollywood strikes. Well, SAG-AFTRA members are once again free to negotiate, and it's been a busy week for the DCU reboot.
In recent days, we've learned that Gabriela de Faría will play The Engineer, with Sara Sampaio joining the movie as Eve Teschmacher and Skyler Gisondo tapped for Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult, meanwhile, appears to be a lock for Lex Luthor.
The r/DCEULeaks moderators have today shared some "verified" information, claiming that an offer has been made to an actor for the role of The Daily Planet's Editor-in-Chief, Perry White. As a result, he's expected to be among the next wave of announcements.
Gunn is said to be on the hunt for Ma and Pa Kent, with actors in their 50s - 70s who are "lesser-known" names thought to be among those he's currently circling for two of the most important figures in Clark Kent's life.
Finally, the group reports that Superman: Legacy is searching for a male in his 40s - 50s for a comedic role that's more than likely Steve Lombard. He appeared in All-Star Superman, one of Gunn's biggest sources of inspiration, and is another Daily Planet mainstay.
It also appears Brainiac will be the reboot's big bad, though there's still no word on who might play him (unless Gunn is planning a crazy bait-and-switch with Hoult).
Oh, and if you've been enjoying seeing this case come together, Gunn has reportedly turned to Superman: Legacy casting director John Papsidera to serve in that role for almost the entire DCU. That will make him the equivalent of Marvel Studios' Sarah Halley Finn. His past credits include Oppenheimer and Yellowstone.
Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
It's also been reported that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell may be in the running for Jor-El (there's no word on Ma and Pa Kent or whether they're even alive in this iteration of Clark Kent's story). There's currently no word on who is playing Brainiac following rumours he'll serve as the reboot's big bad.
Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
