Ryan Reynolds Looks Back On GREEN LANTERN; Still No Idea About Sequel

The Safehouse star looks back on the critically and commercially unsuccessful Green Lantern and once again reiterates that he has no clue as to the chances of a follow up.

"I think it's very wise advice: never congratulate yourself too much, and never berate yourself too much. This is very sage advice," the actor told MTV News in a recent interview. "I look at moviemaking more as the experience than the outcome, which is by and large a pretty healthy way to look at it."

As we all know, the outcome for Green Lantern was not good. Torn apart by critics and rejected by moviegoers, the movie failed to live up to expectations, something Reynolds is aware that he can't let get to him. "If you're invested in the outcome of every single movie, you're bound to have moments where you aren't going to be as happy. I've had movies that were very successful that I wasn't happy with."

"I have no idea," he said when talk turned to the chances of him once again playing Hal Jordan on the big screen. "I do not cut those kinds of checks," he said. "I couldn't have answered that any more clearly before the movie came out either."

they should be asking the suits at the WB. Maybe next time it will be a co-financed project with another outfit like Lionsgate.

i wonder what unsucessful movie he was un-happy with?

i didnt mind green lantern. i found it dissapointing because i had high hopes but after watching it again it wasnt that bad. but still not good enough for the amount of effort that went in.

hope they learn from their mistakes and do a sequel that green lantern and the fans deserve

@gambitfreak Don't be stupid. Chris Pine is Hal Jordan:

GL was a better overall film than Thor IMHO but yeah that's not saying much. Neither film was all that spectacular.

The suits need to give Reynolds a rest already. He's been in too many cbms and is starting to really annoy me

No actor could save that movie. Clint Eastwood in his prime couldn't save that god awful script, plot and editing.

it was watchable but thats about it,sinestro was good & the outer space scenes were also good but not enough of them.

more sinestro more space i'll watch the sequel.

I hope it doesn't get a reboot. The cast was fine in GL. For the most part. The problem with it was the story and character development. By the end of the movie sinestro had no reason to put on the ring outside Of the fact that it happened in the comics. This movie had potential but failed. Biggest disappointment of 2011 for me. Bring a stronger story and give the fans the quality sequel that we should have had for the first. movie. And please keep. Geoff Johns away from it

they cant dismiss Hal as a character. i vote that after chris pine is done with star trek in 4 or 5 years they bring him on to reboot GL and hopefully get it right. by then theyll have better CGI that costs less and can do more of what they want to do with sfx and such.

as much as the movie was a disappointment, its not really Reynolds fault. i will say this, for all its flaws and let downs, when the studio wasnt pushing Reynolds comedic side and he was aloud to actually act, he did a real good job as Hal/GL. for those few moments it kinda made it worth it

Like I said before, I thought he did a good job as Hal. If they do a sequel, I would like to see him back in the role.

A good actor can only do so much with a bad script. Blake Lively did a better job than I expected, but I don't think she's quite the right fit for Carol.

I think Evangeline Lilly would a be better choice for Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire.

@GrahpicCity I couldn't have said that any better if I tried.

Long time reader, first time poster...WHAT UP?

I just watched GL again last night to show a buddy who hadnt seen it. My opinion with CBM's is they don't HAVE to follow the comics perfectly. I, like you, would love it if they took some of the big storylines and translated them as best as possible, but there are only so many that would work really well. So I'm completely ok with "interpretations". The problems with this movie weren't the cast or the acting. It was the special effects that made the acting seem cheese, and the plot/scripting that made the movie lame. Paralax was no better than "cloud" Galactus as a villain, and Sinestro, Tomar, and Kilawog were highly underused. BUT, I think the movie is watchable as a peace of entertainment. Its not the worst CBM. I think they could keep it and make a bad ass sequel from it. Better directing, and better writing.

LOL at the person who thinks GL better than Thor. Does he think crappy CG aliens and a cheesy oath make a comic book movie better? No. Think acting and dramatic sequence which Thor has in spades.

Reboot GL in 2015, before that release Flash and Wonder Woman movies.

I like how people are making it seem like Thor was flawless. Kat Dennings and shitty acting from the moron who played Sif make THAT movie almost unwatchable.
BRING ON THE SEQUEL FOR GL!!!!!!!!

I will never get the hate for this film.

@JohnTom88: Oh I'm sorry but I've gotta deny that for denying others, sorry. :(

Also screw reboots for they'll be the death of superhero movies. Mark my word.

Now before someone goes "LOLOLOLOLOL, stupid they won't." Think about it. By saying reboot a film that some people say was bad means if hollywood makes ANY mistakes with their future superhero films, simply rebooting will be their answer and they'll do it over and over again. And if you keep on rebooting the same thing over and over again, people will get bored and lose interest.

First off, I totally agree that Nathan Fillion should have played Hal Jordan.

As far as Ryan Reynolds appearing in a Green Lantern sequel.... BRING ON DEADPOOL!
