Ryan Reynolds Talks Justice League Movie; Reiterates That He's Not Been Asked To Star In It!

In an interview with MTV News at WonderCon in San Francisco this past weekend, the actor revealed what he thinks about the decision to make a JLA movie and once again points out that he has nothing to do with it...

When it was revealed that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were planning on releasing a Justice League movie in 2013, many speculated that it would involve Henry Cavill's Superman, Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern and a rebooted Batman. Well, once again we have something that seems to state the opposite. Zack Snyder has already revealed that the Man of Steel will not be the same one we see in the team-up movie and now Ryan Reynolds once again says he has no knowledge of it either. Check out the video, along with a transcription, below.

"I hear about it, but I hear about it the same way you do: from a Ouija board, late night over a glass of Chardonnay."

"I don't know much about it other than it is in the makeup and the plans and the development slate of Warner Brothers. But, I don't have anything to do with it."

"The fan in me thinks it's fantastic. Of course you wanna see all those iconic characters standing together in one room. As far as being involved, I have nothing to do with it as of yet."

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this year!

I'm really excited about the JLA project because it will not include: Bale, Reynolds and (especially) Cacvill. This reinvention now has a real possibility of being a success!

As for the jab he is right the Avengers may be awesome and growing in popularity but they aren't on the JLA 's level . I just hope DC don't screw it up .

No matter who you prefer you can't deny this:

Avengers = A group of C-class up to A-class heroes that we may love but the general public know, or until recently have known nothing about. Hulk being the exception.

Justice League = A group of C-class up to un-rateable genre defining icons the whole world knows no matter what their interest.

That makes the Avengers movie a bold move but the Justice League movie a near impossibility. If we got it, and got it done right then our minds would be blown away!

Im hopeful DC is planning something right. It would be absolutely nonsense to not include a universe that is being formed in front of our eyes, with batman superman, GL and wonder woman. Flash soon and may be more? And not include those? What are they thinking? It would be mad to not use this

I'm all for a JLA movie... but it will be difficult to do. In the Marvel movies, you can change the costumes and make them more real... it will be hard to make those same changes in a DC movie.

Can you imagine how silly Flash, Superman, GL (for example) all in the same room wearing their PJs. Not saying it CAN'T be done... but it will be a challenge.

Teabag - maybe I wasn't clear. I'm saying that JLA is a riskier movie. Let's face it, if Marvel wanted to they could have watered down the Avengers characters with putting some into the background as supporting characters and gone straight into the movie without needing to establish the characters first. The general public would just see it as an X-Men/GI-Joe type ensemble and it would sell. That can't be done with JLA. No matter who you are you have a basic knowledge of the importance of Superman and Batman. And most know who Wonder Woman and the Flash are. The general public know these characters aren't supporting roles. So in a way, the pressure is off for Marvel as they can present their Avengers characters whichever way they want while DC have to get each hero right.

Oh, and don't bad-mouth Scooby-Doo meets Batman! That's one of my favourite movies!

@teabag the dude in the wedding pic must've had a hard on all day God bless him and his wedding night!

Warner Bros needs to grow a pair and go balls to the wall and make the film just hire zack snyder to direct and it will succeed. This is coming from a big Marvel head...

I'm still wondering what this means for The Flash and Green Lantern 2.

Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Green have been working on screenplays for these since last June - surely those would be likelier candidates for 2013?

@Tea I say a lot of people know they go together because 80's kids had the Super Friends and the 90's kids had JLA and JLU animated shows. They grew up on it or were aware of it even they were not comic book fans per-say.

@GRIF. well said. the cgi in the GL looks amazing and by now im tired of the transformers....i fell asleep during the second one. it was far too long of a movie. WB will be missong out on the cash flow they are desiring if they dont do the team up....its what the majority of us want.....so far as this poll goes:

@teabag I would say you are a little right but I would say that more of the general audience is aware more of the JLA then the Avengers also I believe it may me more so here in the states then in Great Britain. Almost every kid here grew up with them more because everyone watched them on Saturday morning line ups and weekday afternoons after school here. Also it explains why so many people on movie forums and youtube who were 90's kids and non comic book fans posted so much that they thought Green Lantern was a black guy.

Super friends and the JLA were very popular here in the states and on Ironman here very few people know about Ironman either. Both Super friends and the JLA were shown on a much longer run and more popular here then any marvel show with Xmen in the 90s coming very close

@tea also anyone who has gone to Six Flags here has seen them together. I would even say more of the general public has gone to Six Flags parks more then Disney world and Universal because of location proximity to where they live and seen the JLA together.

Regarding Snyder's Superman- he has commented that Cavill would not appear in a JL film but its ultimately WB's decision, right? There was an article alluding to that that appears to have been removed, was that an April Fools dealy?

I've always thought the best film would be a period piece that stays true to the DC characters from the 40's. Not just for a JSA film but for Superman and Batman as well. I would love to see a Superman film that portrays the Original man of steel leaping tall buildings and hefting cars rather than damming rivers and turning back time by reversing the earths rotation.

I will say that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash are the most well known DC characters. At least til Green Lantern hits theaters. No "regular joe" knows who Thor is. People know Iron Man, Spiderman, X-Men, and Captain America (just the name of CA). But Spiderman and no X-Men of any kind are in the upcoming Avengers, so, with that being said, I think a Justice League movie would be a bigger hit is all. Besides, no one knows what the Avengers are either. Everyone has heard of Justice League (cause people make those funny video cartoons making fun of them like Southpark does and what not). JL would be more successful and hyped cause of the big hero names in the group.

I am not saying I don't like Marvel or DC or whatever stupid nonsense people make up out of nowhere, I'm just sayin JL would probably kick The Avengers ass in the box office if DC actual got the big actors together and what not. They know they could, if they wanted. And on the flip side, us Marvel fans are fortunate that we have a team film coming, and that Marvel REALLY cares about exposure (in a good way). If DC could just follow suit, the world would be a better place lol.

I'm sure that if done right JLA has the potential to be an epic movie the scale of which the Avengers could only aspire to be. Just having Superman and Batman in the same movie would be a massive unprecedented event, mainly because they are both so established in popular culture. The problem is DC trying to follow Marvel when Marvel has already more or less laid down the ground rules for how a movie of this type is made. None of the characters as of yet exist in the same cinematic universe so they would all (save perhaps GL) need to be re-booted. In my opinion it's too early to see a new Batman, for one, especially with how popular Nolan's version is and the fact that TDKR is just getting ready to come out. This may be a case of Marvel having beat DC to the punch on this one, and DC having to sit back and wait until the time is right.
superpooper
superpooper - 4/4/2011, 4:22 PM
Now that doesn't mean that DC has to go according to the model defined by Marvel. They don't necessarily have to have a shared cinematic universe. They could completely throw that out the window and make a movie based on the presumption that the general public is already very familiar with these characters (mainly because of cartoons) and avoid having to tell any origin stories. It's just with Superman, Batman and GL all having movies coming out in the near future, it would be a lot to ask of the general movie going audience to embrace a movie that did not feature those respective actors reprising their roles. That being the case, it may be wise for DC/Warner to in the very least wait a few years until we are ready for a new Batman and we have an established Superman and GL and then perhaps give it a shot, possibly introducing a new Batman with JLA.

@Ron, true dude it would totally blow away people's minds.

But honestly as much as I would love seeing them all together, I would much rather each of the characters get 3 of their own movies. I want them to have the same opportunity that Superman and Batman had, I believe its the old movies that made Superman and Batman into Pop culture icons!
