After starring in Top Gun: Maverick and Devotion, Glen Powell's star is very much on the rise. A huge superhero role for the actor following those projects feels inevitable, with Green Lantern and Cyclops two potential roles often suggested by fans.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Powell was asked to share his thoughts on his Devotion co-star, Jonathan Majors, prepping to become the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new big bad, Kang the Conqueror. "It's just so fun watching that guy take on the world," the actor raved. "He's literally taking over the entire mortal world. It's wild."
As for his own superhero future, Powell admitted he isn't a huge comic book fan and confirmed he hasn't ever "had a conversation with Marvel."
Despite that, he's appreciative of the support he receives from fans when it comes to him potentially playing Hal Jordan or Scott Summers. "It takes a long time to navigate this town, so for anyone to be like, 'Oh, he'd be great in this role,' it's humbling, it's great."
While Marvel and DC haven't come calling (yet), Powell remains attached to Captain Planet, and reiterated during this conversation that he's still waiting to hear whether the project will move forward at Warner Bros.
"I think those conversations will be happening shortly," he noted. "I know DiCaprio is super passionate about it. I'm super passionate about it. I think it could be great...I want that one to work. I'd love to play that superhero."
A superhero role will happen for Powell sooner rather than later, we're sure, and with the DCEU being rebooted as the DCU, James Gunn and Peter Safran should be able to find a character for the charismatic Scream Queens alum to suit up as. Who that might be remains to be seen, of course, but Green Lantern does seem like a good fit.
What do you guys think?
