Who is Nick Jones?

Who is Nick Jones?

Exclusive Set Photo Update! And why is he in New Orleans on the set of Green Lantern? Follow the jump to see what I've found...

It is time, yet again, for some good old ComicBookMovie.com investigative work; or as I call it, Operation: Speculation. Let’s get the facts straight first:

- Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern began principal photography yesterday at a bar in New Orleans. Thanks to our own CBM scooper Kenny, we’ve seen the first set pictures of Ryan Reynolds /Hal Jordan possibly wearing his Green Lantern ring.

- There are only two bars referenced in Hal Jordan’s origin stories. One, in Emerald Dawn, shows Ferris Aircraft employee Hal sitting with coworkers having a few drinks. The second (and most recent), in Secret Origins, shows Air Force pilot Hal having a confrontation with a Marine by the name of John Stewart.

Now, on to the fun part. Nick Jones is a former Marine who is currently an actor and model. He has a yet to be disclosed role in the Green Lantern film. I’ve followed him on Twitter over the past few days, but only today made contact with him. Here are the relevant tweets for your viewing pleasure (read it bottom to top for chronological order):

And here is the picture Nick tweeted of himself on set with Ryan Reynolds:

Can you see where I’m heading with this yet? Maybe I can make the association a bit clearer. . .

My educated guess is that Nick Jones' small role in Green Lantern is the Jon Stewart cameo fans have asked for.

John Stewart, an architect and Marine before joining the Green Lantern Corps, has been a fan favorite Lantern for many years and has been featured in several DC animated cartoons.

I now pose the question to you all; could Nick Jones be our feature film John Stewart? And if so, do you see Stewart having a larger role in the Green Lantern sequel? You know the drill, Confirm or Debunk below!

Exclusive Update! New set photos of Green Lantern featuring Ryan Reynolds and possible John Stewart Nick Jones:

Makes sense. It would be really cool if that is who he is playing in the movie. Stewart is actually my favorite GL (sorry guys, but I always felt that Jordan was a bit too deuchy for my taste)and I hope that if he is in the movie, he ends up coming back in the sequel as a member of the GL Corps.

Deffo a possibility. But if he doesn't have a name yet it could just be a random marine..unless they intentionally don't name him in the movie but it is supposed to be Stewart. I was kinda hoping that if he did cameo it would be a bigger name..but anyway, we wait and see!

Nice find! He definitely looks the part of John Stewart. If I were to guess, I think he'll be the John Stewart of this movie, but if they ever have John play a more significant role, he'll be recast. (like Pyro and Kitty in the X-men movies)

does anyone else get a great vibe from reynolds in this pic, to me they've got the hair and clothes right but something about his demeanor in the pic just looks right for hal jordan, I know its just a pic, but he looks almost older than he is and really focussed, I'm digging it.

Good job Poni. I would bet they are keeping it open for just that reason. If it works, they've laid the ground work for Stewart. If they were to put a name actor in there, it could pull away from the movie.

the guy definitely resembles john stewart, a little bit younger version. Have to see if he can actually act, though. I'd rather see Stewart have his own Lantern story, and not be a rhodey/war machine sidekick, but that would be down the line, so hopefully the guy is a good enough actor, then he can take over the role a few years in the future

oh i see...because he's black that means he must be playing John Stewart? i really thought you were above that, Poni, i REALLY did, lol :)

seriously though, i have no doubt that we'll get introduced to John Stewart and Guy-DBag-Gardner in this series of movies.

BlackAirs87 - I guess you can look at it that way. They both took over the role of superhero for the original at one point or another. IMO though, he turned out to be a more reliable and responsible hero that Jordan ever was. Come to think of it, I guess Rhodes did also. Then again, one had a serious drinking problem and the other turned out to be a schizophrenic murdering sociopath. Not really hard to top that if you think about it.

you know it feels like we heard about all the other marvel movies: Cappy, the Merc with a mouth, and well i know thor is in production... but it seems like they really got on the ball quick with GL. I really feel Reynolds announced he would be playing Deadpool before we knew about GL and they havent even finished the script yet.... IMO.
vonstallin
vonstallin - 3/16/2010, 12:12 PM
too early to say....
I guess for a first film they are putting him in to sort of flush out the books...

But if down the line ..say GL3 they decide to create a different one Id bet they audition for more actors vs a new one.

But Id cast my vote for him.
or if they do a JLA and make Jon the GL on earth with the JLA and Hal the GL thats off world.

Multi - I agree with that statement. Never has such a conglomeration of such different characters (including the squirrel guy)been so cool and had such great chemistry. As matter of fact, GL Corps is one of my favorite books.
