A huge haul in China has rocketed Guardians of the Galaxy's box office haul into the stratosphere as it is now the third highest grossing Marvel Studios movie of all-time behind only The Avengers and Iron Man 3. How does it stack up against 2014's other CBMs? Read on for details!

Most of us thought that Guardians of the Galaxy had all the makings of a hit, but the third highest grossing Marvel Studios movie of all-time behind only Iron Man 3 and The Avengers? Now that's impressive! As of right now, it has topped both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and as it continues to dominate the Chinese box office, it WILL beat Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past to become the #1 superhero movie of 2014. A sequel has already been given a 2017 release date, and at this rate, it will more than likely be yet another $1 billion hit for the Kevin Feige led studio. We'll be sure to keep you updated over the coming weeks.

I so hope all the people who doubted this movie feel like complete morons right now.

They won't. They'll just shift their focus to Ant-Man.

another 13 million and it will pass DOFP, who would have thought this was possible a year ago.

Beautiful!! With it still having to debut in Italy, and another 3 or so weeks in China before it's taken down, it could topple DoFP and Maleficent.

Topping all three other CBMs in such a tight year... huge achievement.

Incredible! Who would've thunk it? Goes to show how far well-written, interesting, likable, hilarious characters will take you...whether or not they are a known or unknown property. Then again, we already learned this lesson with Iron Man in 2008...so maybe we should finally stop doubting these people haha.

People thought this movie would flop, and it's now the highest grossing CBM of the year. Holy shit!

With the Avengers, it's my favorite MCU movie (Cap 2 the 'best'), well deserved!

@NetmanTripleSec

And of course a drooling idiot like you would try to turn this into a marvel vs dc thing instead of just being happy for this movie's success.

Ha, I've been saying the exact same thing batz. The Winter Soldier might be Marvel's best, most well-made movie...but my favorites will always be The Avengers and now Guardians of the Galaxy. Not sure if that even makes sense, but there it is haha.

I didn't understand back then... and I still don't or will ever understand what kind of idiots thought a film like this would flop. I mean because it's clearly the type of film people avoid right... lol

I was thinking $500-600 mil for Guardians, nice to see it beating expectations. I like seeing all CBMs do well. I'm not 1 of those Marvel vs DC clowns. I like comics and I like comic book movies, regardless of brand. I don't see anything from Marvel studios making less than $500-600 mil at this point. Hopefully DC will have the same luck with Suicide Squad, Aquaman, Cyborg etc.

" it is what it is"
I HATE that saying!!! It's like an old grandma getting mugged and there is two people witnessing and one of them says " There's an old lady getting mugged!" and the other guy says " it is what it is". That saying is an excuse for nothing. It's like a principal hearing a school bully beat up a student and he responds by saying " it is what it is" or boys touching a girls butt and someone saying " boys will be boys". It makes no sense and it's gives no reason for the actions. We actually had a conversation about this in US History class.
