BOX OFFICE: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Opens In China; Tops MAN OF STEEL's WW Total

Guardians of the Galaxy has finally reached China, and after a solid start and money still coming in from North America and overseas, the James Gunn helmed Marvel Studios movie has now surpassed Man of Steel's worldwide total! Read on for details...

Guardians of the Galaxy has only just debuted in China, so it should be very interesting to see how much its run there adds to its eventual box office haul and where it will ultimately place when compared to this year's other three big Marvel movies; Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714 million), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($708 million), and X-Men: Days of Future Past ($746 million).

The fact that it has now beaten Man of Steel takes nothing away from Zack Snyder's impressive Superman reboot (especially as it faced moviegoers sceptical of the iconic DC Comics superhero after the tepid response to Superman Returns), but you have to imagine that Kevin Feige and company are patting themselves on the back for making such a huge success out of a group of characters who even the most hardcore comic book fans would admit to not being familiar with.

With an estimated $26.6 million, Guardians of the Galaxy took the #1 spot in China and scored the third highest opening for any Disney release there. It's beaten only by Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, it did have all-time industry record opening in October, adding yet another record to the James Gunn helmed movie's impressive box office run!

Because Man Of Steel's worldwide total is completely relevant to Guardians Of The Galaxy's opening in China...

So, a movie based on a team of D-list (now A-list) Marvel superheroes is better received and makes more money at the box office than a movie based on the most iconic and famous superhero of all time? LMAO.

MARVEL FTW

Disney or China Film [frick]ed the Guardians. It is one of the worst release dates of the year.
Last week was "National Day Golden Week" and they released one of their biggest movies.
And this Saturday was a work day because of that.

What I find funny is that Man of Steel is always brought up in nearly every comparison.

say what you will about guardians of the galaxy but those are impressive numbers for a group of unknown heroes to the general audiences outside of the comic book world.

Time to watch as countless fanboys have a knee-jerk reaction and conveniently choose to ignore this very rational and logical comment in the article:

"The fact that it has now beaten Man of Steel takes nothing away from Zack Snyder's impressive Superman reboot (especially as it faced moviegoers sceptical of the iconic DC Comics superhero after the tepid response to Superman Returns)"

It's all about PR.
Dredd (2012) was one of the best cb movies but didn't get the money it deserved.

Well deserved! I hope it continues to make more until it's Blu Ray release. Now i'm ready for Nov. 18th(the digital release) and Dec. 9(Blu Ray release)!

"debuted in China with $26.6M"

Looks like this garbage will struggle to reach DOFP WW BO numbers.

Guardians could have done 100+ millions with a better date, now the maximum is 70-80 with great WOM

each year, comic movies use to make more than previous years, not counting Avengers, Dark knight and Ironman 3. So this is not surprising.

2016 movies will top all 2010-2014 movies too, so... its just the norm
