When Marvel Studios announced plans to release a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, there were plenty of people convinced it would be the MCU's first flop.
It was a strange reaction considering the fact the studio had made hits with B-List characters like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, a trio who were undeniably second or third-tier Marvel superheroes prior to that. When the movie was eventually released, it became a critical and commercial hit.
Writer and director James Gunn considered a number of actors for the role of Star-Lord and ultimately went with Parks & Recreation star Chris Pratt. He'd already shown a new side of himself in Zero Dark Thirty, so the news he'd been cast was largely embraced by fans.
Glenn Howerton was reportedly the filmmaker's second choice, while Shazam! star Zachary Levi was also considered. However, the latter's Shazam! Fury of the Gods co-star, Adam Brody, has now confirmed he was also in the running.
"I wanted that one," he admitted in a recent interview with Variety, noting that Pratt was ultimately a "better" fit. "He is bigger, stronger, but tonally, I really dug it."
Brody got his shot at playing a superhero in the Shazam! movies and was praised for his work in the recent sequel (many even argued that his take on the adult Freddy Freeman was better than what Levi did with the title character).
In Guardians of the Galaxy, brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain.
To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb's true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.
Do you think Brody would have made a good Star-Lord?
