James Gunn Says No CAPTAIN MARVEL Or VENOM Symbiotes In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

James Gunn Says No CAPTAIN MARVEL Or VENOM Symbiotes In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

At this point, it's probably easier to figure out who the new additions to the team will be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 by process of elimination.  Joining the ranks of characters not appearing in the film according to director and screenwriter James Gunn are Captain Marvel and VenomOn Captain Marvel, Gunn specifically stated, "Getting this [question] a lot this morning. As I said months ago, no, [Captain Marvel] sorry." As for the symbiote and by proxy, Venom, Gunn was a little more evasive but still seemed to rule them out. "There are no rumors. Just guesses, which are fun. Only 6 of us know who's in GotG2."

Other character ruled out by Gunn for GotG2 are Gladiator of the Shi'ar Empire, Ronan the Accuser, Bug, Rom: Spaceknight, and Nova aka Richard Rider.  Previously, Gunn has teased that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will introduce his favorite Marvel Comics character, which has lead to a ton of speculation from fans.  Gunn further teased that his favorite character may not necessarily be male, which is what led some to speculate that it would Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers.  It should be noted that during junket interviews before the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn stated that his favorite Marvel characters are Starhawk and Annihilus.  With Annihilus' character rights owned by Fox as part of their Fantastic Four package, it stands to reason that the new character will be Starhawk.

I think the story for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has been in development long before we even got the rights to Spidey back.

I reckon GotG2 will introduce us to time travel and we'll get Starhawk, Major Victory and Mantis on the team. Warlock will be a character in the movie, but not a team member.

Yeah, I don't know if Starhawk is going to cut it. I guess some kind of mutated version of Starhawk would be a highly likely candidate for Star-Lord's dad. In fact I would at this point be more surprised at this point if he wasn't. But I sure want to see Adam
Warlock and Mar-Vell sooner rather than later in this cosmic world. And Mantis, I hate having a GotG without her.

I honestly think he's hurting the anticipation for this movie the more he lists off awesome characters who AREN'T in it.

But I'm really curious to see which direction the sequel goes in; it's only been one Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel (potentially two with Age of Ultron) that was a very great follow up to the previous movie.

I hate to say this as much as I dig Thanos, it might be time to detract a bit from that for GOTG2 and at least hint toward another threat. LOL... I'm full of impossible fan wishes tonight... Galactus anyone? No animosity toward Fox at present, but hell I wish they would be magnanimous with the shared rights at this point in the game.

I love what James Gunn has done with Guardians, but let's face it, the sequel will probably be nothing like what we're all expecting. It's like giving a Star Wars Lego set to a kid who has little to no knowledge about the Star Wars universe. The characters are still there, but the story will be whatever this kid makes up as he plays.

I need Starlord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Hulk in this movie. The reunion of Rocket and Hulk would be awesome. Thats the only reason they are going to make Widow so close to Hulk in AoU so someone can be extra effected when Ultron ships him off world.

@Hush2010 A WWHulk movie seems like a logical progression to me too. As far as modern story arcs go, not only did I thoroughly enjoy it, but it seemed so organic. Like it was the massive pressure relieve or more apropos, the most logical outcome to all the scorn the Hulk suffered on Earth throughout the years. Making it the center piece to a GOTG film seems right...despite the fact it would be an incredible detraction from the source material.

People actually thought that Danvers and the symbiotes were gonna be in the sequel just because of Bendis lackluster run on the Guardians? Its official, Marvel's cosmic characters are doomed.

what ? venom ? you can show the symbiote but venom ? venom belongs in spiderman movie. also i think i found perfect Eddy Brock ...

he would have to be a little younger than he is in the comics but still ...
NovaCorpsFan
NovaCorpsFan - 3/8/2015, 7:08 AM
I'll never consider Captain Marvel or Venom as members of the GotG, purely because of the fact that Bendis was the one who made that happen and I'll never forgive him for killing Richard Rider off.
DEVWoulf

@Hush2010

That makes a lot of sense as I don't know why there is a Hulk/Widow relationship in the first place. I don't see Hulk in any of the upcoming movies such as Civil War. What are they going to do with him? Sending him to space is something they can really build on.
DallasAvenger
DallasAvenger - 3/8/2015, 7:12 AM
@JoJo1982 Well sure, but it seems like an odd choice to go with such a relativity minor character, especially one who's history is completely wrapped up in her father's history, when you haven't even introduced him yet, why not go with Moondragon, if she does show up though I hope it is as Martyr. I was really just asking if you had heard some indication that she would show up.

he wrote the story while GOTG was coming out. hes probably finished a decent story. maybe there could be a scene with the symbiote attaching its self to their ship but other than that i doubt there is anything.

@jerryblake I could actually wouldn't mind that. He would have to get a little bigger but other than that, it would be perfect casting.

@DevarikaWoulf I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. The animated movie that Marvel put out was good and I admit my dander was up a bit when I saw Beta Ray Bill instead of the Silver Surfer, but later I realized the supporting characters involved were less important than following the Hulk's existential crisis. I think this would be spectacular and it might even give Mark Ruffalo the recognition he deserves.

here's what i would do a new infinity stone is discovered (warlock) then the guardians try to retrieve it after gamora hears that the black order are after it for thanos. along the way we visit hala and meet phylla vell and engage in a few space battles as the ravagers and Nebula join in on the hunt for the Gem. the ravagers could attack the guardians to get the gem only to then be attacked by the black order and their forces of saakaran/chitauri/what ever other aliens.

then as the gem moves quill comes across adam warlock as the battle rages who after a brief discussion flee's. the battle enters kree space as the black order attempt to chase after warlock and smash through the remaining ravagers when suddenly a kree fleet under the command of Mar vell arrive and force the black order to retreat. Mar vell thanks the guardians for their assistance then we get a scene between mar vell and the supreme intelligence discussing thanos.

then to top it all of the black order run back to thanos saying they have failed, thanos smiles and say's something like it is time then the ebony maw emerges from the shadows revealing that he retrieved a gem from the dr strange film by manipulating the good dr or something like that.
