James Gunn Shares Cryptic GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Storyboard; Does It Hint At The Identity Of 'Star Lord's' Father?

Gunn frequently takes to his Facebook page to share tidbits of cryptic or non-essential information from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the director of the Marvel sequel is at it again. This time, is he hinting at the identity of Star Lord's father? Hit the jump and see for yourself.

It's not uncommon at this stage for directors to share things with fans from the set of their movies. Heck, even the Russos have started doing it. Not so surprising then that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has taken up the trend once again. While the first Guardians movie was in production Gunn shared plenty of set photos of side characters and extras in costume as well as tonnes of other tidbits. Today, Gunn took to his official Facebook page to share a rough and comically drawn storyboard with the caption, "Another Wednesday, another shot we just shot from one of my original thumbnails. I don't think you'll ever guess what this one is, at least not until the film comes out (but I know that won't stop you from trying)". Oh Mr. Gunn, you know your fanbase all too well. With that, here's the image:

Gunn's pretty much served this up on a plate for us to speculate on, so we might as well take a crack at it. Looks to me like some of the Guardians have stumbled upon a cocoon. If the tagline is anything to go by, this scene may be essential to the identity of Star Lord's father. Could it be Adam Warlock? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

@TheEpicJuicebox - I've been thinking Star-Lord's dad was the "One Who Knows", Stakar (Starhawk) for awhile now. James Gunn said during press for the 1st film that Starhawk and Annihilus are his favorite Marvel characters. He can't use Annihilus.

The character also fits what he know of the father. Quill's mom said he looked like an angel of light. Stakar has light-based powers. Nova Prime said Quill's father is ancient. Stakar has had an incredibly long life-span having relived his life countless times.

@String - it's weird though because I can't imagine Kurt Russel with the starhawk costume on. Maybe he's a retired guardian?

I know people are clamoring for Adam Warlock, and look at my username, he's arguably my favorite character, but I swear to God if people complain when it is (possibly) revealed he's not present whatsoever, I'mma be smackin these hoes. Gunn seems to be a guy who can only do what occurs in his mind, if Adam Warlock isn't part of his vision for VOL.2 then more power to him, because despite Adam being by fav. character, Gunn's vision is most likely stronger without him, only given that he doesn't think Warlock is necessary in the first place. But we'll see, the notion of Kurt Russel doing Warlock is interesting to say the least. Mantis is really who I'm excited about, quite possibly my favorite female character.

I'm really excited for this movie, has anyone heard of a hint what the story will be? I know annihilation is out of the question or pharalax, interesting to see where Gunn takes it.

A Kurt Russell Warlock feels all kinds of wrong.

But I guess MCU Yondu is pretty out there, too.

As long as the film is good, I don't care.

I don't think it's Adam Warlock's cocoon.
because why should the use the cocoon again if it's already opened at the end of GOTG.
