Kurt Russell Addresses Possibility Of Joining Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Is Kurt Russell really in talks to play Star-Lord's mysterious father in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel? The Hateful Eight star talks here about the potential casting for the first time

When Kurt Russell stopped by the Wall Street Journal and Wolfpop’s Happy Sad Confused podcast on separate occasions to promote The Hateful Eight, both interviewers took the opportunity to ask the actor about reports last week that said Marvel Studios is considering him to play the father of Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, Volume 2. And based on what Russell offers about the potential casting, things are not as concrete as we thought.

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this,” Russell revealed on the Wolfpop podcast. “I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don’t know anything about it.” Of course, he’s heard good things by word of mouth. “Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it! So, I didn’t realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do... it’s a little weird.”

Despite not yet agreeing to play Peter Quill’s mystery father in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2, Kurt Russell reassured to the Wall Street Journal that talks with Marvel are very much underway.  “It could be a one line thing for all I know,” he joked. “But yeah, we’re talking about it... there’s just nothing to talk about at the moment.” Fair enough! Hopefully this pans out as Mr. Russell would make a fine addition to the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. What do you think?

Starring Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Karen Gillan (Nebula), with Bradley Cooper (Rocket), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

If he's being 100% honest, then he clearly hasn't had big discussions yet because he doesn't seem super enthused. On the other hand he can't really outright confirm a rumor, so maybe he's playing it safe, sort of downplaying the excitement to hopefully keep the attention away from this casting news so hopefully it ends up as more of a surprise. If he doesn't get the job then that's fine, too. We'll just to have to move on to the next fellar.

I know Marvel directors past work doesn't really reflect their work on Marvel, but how do you think Coogler would handle the fight scenes in panther(if he gets the job)? Because I heard the first fight is in one take and I heard it was awesome.

Awesome, people keep comparing it to a superhero movie, so it has me excited. And about Kurt Russell, I think he'll take the role, but I hope it excites him, because he looks awesome in the Hateful Eight, I just hope he brings that same sort of savvy, bad guy-ish(moral grey area sounds more like it) charm to the role, while also hopefully giving a fresh performance, I don't want him to be Snake Plissken in the movie. But it's James Gunn, his casting out of all the Marvel movies is arguably the most spot on, that's at least in my opinion. Dave Batista couldn't have been a more risky choice, but at the same time there couldn't have been a more perfect Drax.

I think he better see the movie before he jump on the bandwagon.dont want my man snake plissken getting caught up in a dance off lol.but seriously not feeling how James Gunn trying to turn starlord into a musical superhero cos it was never that way in the comics.at this rate he might have to lure the whole team to dance as a distraction when he finally confront thanos.thanos might even sing a verse or two like a big bollywood music video scene.smh....

I just didn't wish Star Trek was taking such (as it appears) direct inspiration from GoTG.

OK, it's one of the best recent Sci-fi movies, but man... We're talking Star Trek. It must preserve its own identity.

I relatively certain I'd watch a tampon demonstration if it had Kurt Russell in it.
