Marvel Studios wrapped up their Hall H Comic-Con presentation with James Gunn ("Super") and Chris Pratt ("Jurassic World") announcing that the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy has a released date. You will next see adventures from Marvel's intergalactic superheroes in July of 2017! Marvel issued a press released officially announcing Josh Brolin ("The Goonies") as Thanos, one of the most powerful baddies in the Marvel universe.
“Josh brings all the weight and stature necessary for a character as iconic and significant as Thanos,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We’re incredibly excited for fans to see more of him as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.” - Marvel

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. James Gunn is the director and the story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. It releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

This SDCC was turrible.

An ass-rape to society.

Painful.

Ouch.

I mean, I'm excited.... GoTG 1 looks great, but couldn't they at least do the official title for Cap 3, some Dr. Strange news? I mean, it's great they did the footage from A2 and Ant-Man, but I wanted like 1-2 more things besides this.

Weak Comic Con. Expected more from Marvel. So underwhelming.

But as exciting as this is, Marvel really downplayed the Con this year. One release date announced, some Ant-Man reveals, footage that will never be released, and interviews.... Neither Marvel nor DC won this year.

I don't know why they announced Guardians 2 but left out Cap 3 and Doc Strange.

Besides this and AOU segment, I was kinda disappointed with this years panel. Glad they're working on a sequel to GOTG.

DC won SDCC.

Not saying thats a good thing. Marvel should've released a TON MORE shit.
But nah, we got jacked.

Yeah, this year was pretty shit. I mean, BvS cast but they didn't talk. Suit reveals. Footage. Interviews. Josh Brolin walked out on stage with a toy Infinity Gauntlet. One movie announcement. This year sucked.

All those announced release dates, RIGHT before Comic Con... And nothing.

Whatever, we already knew it was coming out, now we just know when. This is a SHAMEFUL DISPLAY!!! Disappointing comic con this year

I really hate saying this on a Marvel thread, much less at all, but it feels like DC did better, IMO, with the news, sure, Marvel announced a movie, but it was already confirmed really. SO it was just timing of the movie. Again, I am NOT trying to troll, but it just feels weird that DC came out with footage and an official still(for the cinematic debut of one of the biggest female characters in fiction, nonetheless) for a movie almost two years away and Marvel did the same thing with two movies coming out in a year, and a little tidbit of info about something we already knew. Please don't take this the wrong way, it just feels weird. I really wanted BP and/or Thor 3 news really badly.

Yeah, agreed that this was an underwhelming Con. But, this is awesome that GOTG 2 is official!! They must have a lot of confidence in the first one if they are already planning the sequel!
MrCBM56
MrCBM56 - 7/26/2014, 6:55 PM
It doesn't help they delayed the [frick]ing panel 15 minutes. That time spent should've been for the announcements of Phase 3.

Well time to get drunk, hopefully the footage leaks before i pass out

Final thought though maybe Marvel didn't announce any future stuff outside of G.O.T.G 2 because they want to see if the FF reboot bombs, which would change their plans if they got the rights back i would think.

This SDCC was fairly underwhelming compared to last year, but I like all of the reveals. Hopefully the footage for BvS, AoU and Ant-Man leak.

Not that it should matter because I think everybody did great, but IMO WB/DC won because of the huge surprise factor, official BvS footage, the WW pic, and the cast was there. Plus we are probably getting Shazam movie confirmation tomorrow.
