Fallout From James Gunn's Firing Continues As GOTG Cast Members Quit Twitter And Leap To His Defence

Disney chose to part ways with former Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn after some offensive Tweets surfaced from a decade ago but now everyone from Chris Pratt to Michael Rooker weigh in.

On Friday, fans were left reeling when it was announced that Disney had fired James Gunn after offensive Tweets from over a decade ago (which he actually apologised for back in 2012) resurfaced. Those were dug up by those who disagree with the filmmaker's political leanings and it's set a dangerous precedent on the social media platform moving forward which has everyone talking.

For now, though, there's obviously a lot of disappointment surrounding the fact Gunn will no longer be at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and, as you can imagine, the movie's cast has now weighed in on the matter. Some are choosing their words carefully and others aren't holding back but it's clear that no one is particularly happy with Disney's decision to suddenly drop the director.

Below, you'll find comments from Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Sean Gunn, Dave Bautista, and more and it's going to be very interesting seeing how the fallout from this decision in the coming days and weeks...

Michael Rooker Leaves Twitter

Rooker and Gunn are close friends so it probably won't surprise you to learn that the actor - who played Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - has now decided to leave Twitter. While he'll remain on Instagram, the fact that trolls dug up Tweets from nearly a decade ago to cost the director his job has clearly not sat well with Rooker and totally soured him on the platform.

Zoe Saldana Chooses Her Words Carefully

Gamora may have been killed off in Avengers: Infinity War but there's a very strong chance the character will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Clearly cautious to say too much before having a chance to mull over what's been happening, Zoe Saldana sent out a Tweet seemingly in support of Gunn while making it clear that she may talk more about his firing in the coming days or weeks.

Dave Bautista Is Extremely Angry

James Gunn gave Dave Bautista his big break in Hollywood following his WWE departure and so it's no wonder that he wants to defend his friend. While he initially made it clear that he was disgusted by Disney's decision to fire the director, he's since made it clear that he believes there are larger ramifications than Gunn not taking the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as you can see below.

Chris Pratt And Karen Gillan Share Messages Of Love, Not Hate

While there are some disgusting theories among some of Gunn's haters on social media that he's part of a secret cult of Hollywood child molesters, it's clear to anyone who is sane that the director shared some pretty awful, unfunny jokes once upon a time which have now been dragged up and used against him despite the fact he's already apologised and has seemingly changed a lot since he shared them.

For now, both Chris Pratt and Karen Gillan have remained vague with their remarks but it sounds like they both support Gunn and the latter will be releasing a lengthier statement in the near future.

Sean Gunn Stands Up For His Brother

Sean Gunn performs as Rocket Raccoon on the set of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and also plays Kraglin. Understandably upset to see what's happened to his brother, Sean took to Twitter a couple of days ago to try and shed some light on what happened and how James has changed in the near decade that's passed since he took to the social media platform to share those distasteful jokes.
