GOTG VOL. 3 Director Reveals Blurp's Origin; Jokes That He's "Probably The Most Important MCU Character"

Though we have seen one or two over the years, Marvel Studios has mostly resisted the urge to introduce too many cute animal sidekicks, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the debut of an adorable alien ally named Blurp.

The character could be glimpsed in the first trailer, and fans have been curious about the fuzzy little fella ever since. Now, director James Gunn has revealed Blurp's origins - and as it turns out, we've seen his species before.

“Probably the most important character to the Marvel Universe going forward is Blurp,” joked Gunn during an interview with Empire.

“Blurp begins as a pet of one of the Ravagers in the movie. He carries him around,” he went on. “Blurp is what’s known as a furry F’saki. In the very first movie, if you remember, there was that Orloni table that they were betting on, with that beast that was eating the animals. The bigger thing was eating the smaller things. That thing was a non-furry F’saki. Blurp is a furry F’saki. So that’s what he is. He’s a pet.”

Between this guy, Baby Rocket, Lylla the otter and Cosmo the Spacedog, we're not sure audiences will be able to handle the cuteness when the GOTG threequel hits theaters this May.

You can get a closer look at Blurp below.

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I just don't get why people have so much faith in Gunns work. Stuff like this has me worried for the future of DC. Gunn has a very specific flavor and I don't care for it.

Is there a mandate that all of these movies need a cute animal or alien character? That little eyeless thing in Shang-Chi. The “how many holes do you have” one from Ant Man? The stupid goats in Thor 4?

@mountainman - It's the Porg/Minion effect. After those two became big things, Marvel was like "we could have merch too!".

@FilmGuy7878 - Add Grogu to that as well. Sucks that he could be interesting. One of the few we’ve met from that species. In theory he could be a Mandelorian and a Jedi. But he just does cute stuff and makes baby noises to get the soccer moms to watch.

@mountainman - Yeah Grogu has a ton of potential as a character outside of just being a cute plot device.

@mountainman - Not just Soccer Moms! After he uses the force, then has to take a nap! It's [frick]ing adorable! Look at him

JUST LOOK AT HIM! CUTEST THING EVER!!!

@DCfan84 - I liked him in season 1. Since then he has grated on my nerves. Maybe not all soccer moms in his fan base, but 100% of the people I know that are obsessed over Grogu are women who have never been Star Wars fans.

@mountainman - I get that, although, my wife is a Star Wars fan her whole life, and she loves Grogu. She says "I want to give him Tisses (Kisses?) on the face". So, I absolutely get where you're coming from. The only part with him in this new season that wasn't nerve wracking was when he first saw Din, and [frick]ing jumped to him! He's adorable though
