Later this year, one of the most powerful characters in all of Marvel Comics will make his MCU debut in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and this new variant cover for Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Kev Walker's upcoming GOTG comic series heralds his big-screen arrival.

The cover features a still of Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, who is expected to serve as an enemy (at least at first) of the team's when we catch up with them in the sci-fi threequel.

"In Marvel comics, the character of Adam Warlock is among the most powerful and fascinating beings of the Marvel Universe. Created by scientists on earth to be the “perfect man,” he took to space, where he became a protector of the Infinity Stones and played pivotal roles in classic sagas like INFINITY GAUNTLET and INFINITY WATCH. Fans everywhere are sure to fall in love with him all over again when he makes his way to the big screen later this year!"

Check out the cover below. The issue hits shelves on April 12.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1 Movie Variant Cover

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

I was hoping for some sort of illustration of this version of Adam Warlock but this is pretty cool too I suppose.

As long as they recreate this with Adam warlock and star lord, I'll be satisfied.

@Origame - I don’t think I can see him as Adam Warlock without thinking of that scene.

@Origame - Gunn is a Goofy and crazy son of a bitch, he might.

I'm not excited at all for this, which normally wouldn't bother me, but considering this guy is shaping the entire DC film division for the foreseeable future.... yeah, slightly perturbed.

Gunn is VERY hit and miss with me. I kinda liked Super but felt it wasn't really worth recommending, hated Slither and Brightburn, Guardians 1 is super overrated and generic beyond all hell, I liked Guardians 2 more because everyone involved felt like they understood the assignment better, I genuinely love the Christmas Special, The Suicide Squad was solid and ambitious and a W, and Peacemaker was also really, really good.

I mostly appreciate Gunn for his risks and his ambitious nature with some stuff.... but once again I think WB is betting it all on the wrong horse. Gunn isn't the guy. He's gonna do his odd stuff and bounce out when it doesn't land.
