GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 May Not End Up Featuring Adam Warlock Despite VOL. 2 Tease

At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, some huge hints about Adam Warlock's MCU debut were dropped. However, writer and director James Gunn has now indicated that may not end up happening...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended with a major tease that Adam Warlock would return in the threequel to take out Star-Lord and company at the behest of the villainous Ayesha. There's been speculation about the character's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, with many fans convinced we would meet Adam in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame

Well, during a recent Instagram Q&A, writer and director James Gunn was asked who will end up playing Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and he had a surprising response.

While it's hardly a shocker that Gunn didn't reveal who will play Warlock, it doesn't appear as if he's even guaranteed to appear in the threequel! "I never said Adam Warlock was in the movie," the filmmaker responded. Just because the character was teased at the end of Vol. 2, it seems that doesn't necessarily mean he will appear here, as there could be other plans for the villain/hero in the MCU.

Remember, Gunn also introduced the "original" Guardians in the last movie and there's been no word on them returning either, so Adam Warlock is a character who could wind up finding a place elsewhere in this shared world. Then again, it's also possible the director is just toying with us and choosing to neither confirm nor deny the character's involvement in the very secretive sequel.

Do you guys think we'll see Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?

takes on Vol. 2's original Guardians of the Galaxy!

Stakar

Played by Sylvester Stallone, Marvel ended up giving this character a much more grounded look in James Gunn's sequel but here we see a version whose powers are on full display at all times.

This powered down version of Stakar once again shows a very different take on the character and it seems as if Marvel wanted to look at few different ways his abilities could be portrayed on screen.

Known as Starhawk in the comic books, he's a key character within the classic Guardians roster and the Guardians 3000 run and was granted his powers by the Hawk God (it's as weird as it sounds).

Here, we see a far more grounded take on the character as Stallone's face is put on full display. Given his A-List status, it makes sense for Marvel to show that in order to promote his involvement.

Martinex

Played by Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum, Martinex was very visually distinctive and this piece of artwork provides some insight into how Marvel's talented concept artists dreamed up his look.

Well, this is different! A slightly more out of control look for the character, this actually works a little better and it will be interesting seeing if Marvel finds a way to use this when he shows off his powers.

The character has been portrayed in a lot of different ways over the years and so Marvel had a lot of freedom when it comes to how best to show him on screen. This one would have been very cool.

A silicon-based life form composed of silicon crystal, Martinex is able to control both extreme heat and cold making him a very powerful and formidable member of this team of Guardians/Ravagers.

Charlie-27

Two very different takes on the character played by Ving Rhames, he's from the 31st Century and is actually the last survivor of a race who were genetically engineered to live on Jupiter.

Aleta Ogord

Marvel appears to have settled on Aleta's look fairly early on as Michelle Yeoh looked pretty much exactly like this on screen. She was born in a radioactive wasteland with the power to manipulate light.

Mainframe

Mainframe - voiced by Miley Cyrus of all people - was just a head in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but Marvel clearly had some much bigger ideas for the character at an earlier point in production.

With any luck, we'll see the character get a body so she can kick some ass in the third instalment but here we get to see some very different takes on that head design clearly influenced by the comics.

These two are my personal favourites! In the source material, Mainframe was actually The Vision who transformed into this A.I. in the 31st Century. Clearly, James Gunn is looking to simplify things here.

Krugarr

This rather unique looking creature is a worm-like alien from the race known as the Lem and if you're wondering about his magical abilities, he was actually trained by Doctor Strange in the comics!

Chances are that won't be the case by the time Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rolls around but linking Krugarr to The Ancient One would be an amazing Easter Egg for fans of the MCU.

The Doctor Strange influence is even more apparent here given the style of the cloak he's wearing and the fact he has what appears to be the Eye of Agamotte hanging around his alien neck.

Marvel came up with a lot of incredible designs for this sequel but it's fair to say this guy is one of the best. Are you excited to see more of the original Guardians? Share your thoughts down below.

Well if he isn't in Guardians Vol 3, then they need to include the Guardians in the possible Adam Warlock movie. Can't just ignore the fact that he is being sent after them.

Adam Warlock should have his own movie. Great character.

@WakandanQueen -
Well he actively hates the character... so he could be telling the truth.

Especially seeing as we've had multiple set-up's to what GoTG3 would be about;

• Direct continuation of GoTG2
• Thor & Starlord buddy movie searching for Gamora
• Drax focused movie potentially featuring Moondragon
• Gamora & Nebula focused dealing with the fallout of Thanos' defeat
• Set-up for a new team of Guardians 'Infinity Watch' perhaps
• Prequel/Sequel featuring some moments with the OG Guardians Of The Galaxy

It feels like they are still testing the waters with no clear idea what to do with Guardians 3.

The absolute state of James Gunn.

He’ll probably be in Guardians III, but if not, he’ll provably end up in Nova, Fantastic Four, or some other cosmic IP.

As much as I enjoyed the first two Guardians movies, it feels like Gunn is constantly being salty despite now being back on board for GOTG3. I was looking forward to someone else taking over

James Gunn is the reason why Adam Warlock is not in the MCU

Keep him far away from the Annihilators (minus Ronan)

Tonic24k - 11/19/2019, 5:25 AM
@GodHercules20 - Not necessarily. The Russo Brothers kept him out of Endgame, too. It's all just about what the 'best story' dictates. And Feige dictates what the 'best story' is. We'll get Adam Warklock in good time, my friend.

@Tonic24k -
Adam Warlock could easily have been introduced in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 which would have given us an established character they could have used in Endgame easily.

The MCU established this and then it was dropped by Gunn only to be re-established at the end of GoTG2. It is the fault of Gunn that Adam Warlock was not introduced prior and therefore was not included in Infinity War/Endgame.

@Scarilian - Yea, honestly couldn't care less about Peter's family drama. Rather have Adam Warlock.

@Scarilian - They established that in Thor 2

Still no Adam Warlock

This is what happens if you give too much input to James Gunn handling the cosmic side

He really has blocked Warlock from being introduced for awhile now. If they don't want him in the movies, then stop teasing him. He's so protective of his films being about just the Guardians but are we just gonna toss that cliffhanger post-credits scene out the window? People would forget what they're looking at if some other franchise picked up where it left off and introduced Adam in a different movie.

Maybe for the better. I can't see Gunn handling Warlock with the respect and complexity he deserves.
