Marvel Studios has released two new clips from James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and while they're not massively revealing, if you'd rather go in without any prior knowledge of certain plot points, it might be best to avoid the footage for now.

Mild spoilers ahead.

In the first clip, Adam Warlock launches an attack on Knowhere in an attempt to capture Rocket for the High Evolutionary. The rest of the Guardians oppose him, and Nebula comes closest to taking the formidable Sovereign being down, but he proves to be far too powerful for the cybernetic Daughter of Thanos.

The second clip sees Star-Lord and Groot infiltrate the High Evolutionary's base of operations, as the despicable villain explains his deluded motivations to the increasingly indifferent heroes.

The first reviews for GOTG Vol. 3 are in, and it's currently sitting at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. I won't get a chance to finish my write-up until tomorrow, but you can check out my Twitter reaction below.

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

Oh no. Adam warlock beat up nebula. I'm expecting this to end up like that billboard of apocalypse choking mystique.

@dracula - The truth. He is nothing more than a pet and slave of the Sovereign.

@SonOfAGif - yeah but he isnt the big bad, neither is the sovereign

Highly doubt he is going to be fighting them until the end, will probably switch sides in the third act

Nebula channeling her inner Tony Stark. Love that she has what looks like an alien repulsor and hovering capabilities like Iron Man. Shows she has taken some tips from her former allies.

@SonOfAGif - Yeah, looks like Rocket really hooked her up. She's definitely leveled-up.

Sheesh, easy work 😬 He did that so quickly and easily I kinda want to see him fight Thanos now

I already like The High Evolutionary. He gives off that psycho doctor who is always looking to experiment for their own ego. I hope he is as formidable as he is perceived to be.

So... I seem to recall some folks here recently lamenting that AW would basically be a pussy compared to his comic counterpart and essentially be wasted in this movie. Now, while I haven't seen the movie yet I can't speak to the latter, BUT I'm kinda thinking that at least based this very short clip which is clearly representative of his abilities throughout the film, he's at least pretty formidable. That being said, some of the early reviews have mentioned that he has a sort of childish mentality (probably at least initially anyway) and that would make sense since he's literally about the age of a young child mentally (depending on how you track time in the MCU). That being said, as a father of two young children, if either of them did to me what AW did to Nebula in that clip, there would DEFINITELY be NO increase after dinner and a strong chance of a time-out WITHOUT iPads. I'm serious. You just try me, mister.

Not watching it, I'm seeing the movie in 5 days.
However, I saw the thumbail of the clip, and my instant thought was "you guys have infinity stones!?"

@KillerOfSaints - it must be really hard for you when big mean movie studios change the colour of the magic gems. I mean that’s serious stuff… the audacity! Out of curiosity how old are you?

@connorblaze - Heaven forbid they stick to source material RIGHT? How the [frick] old are you? If I'm young enough would you like to come over and touch me? Gross. You probably never read any comics and were born into the MCU and internet. But I'm glad you're sticking up for Disney. So stunning, so brave.

Watched it last night in IMAX and it was amazing. I really liked what they did with Adam. He is in the movie from start to finish and has quite a few comedic beats. I really liked his "pet" too.
