We've suspected this might be the case for a while, but a newly released synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 makes it clear just how high the stakes will be for Rocket in the threequel.
The first trailer confirmed we'll learn more about the raccoon's origin story, along with the role The High Evolutionary played in his creation. With that villain taking centre stage in the upcoming threequel, it sounds like Rocket's very life will be on the line with only his teammates capable of ensuring he makes it out of this trilogy alive.
"In Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere," reads the synopsis. "But it isn't long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket's turbulent past."
"Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket's life-a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."
If Gunn dares kill Rocket, there won't be a dry eye in theaters this summer. Dave Bautista has already confirmed his time in the MCU will end with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so Drax is likely a goner, but there have to be more stories to tell with Rocket, especially given his history as a member of The Avengers.
Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.
Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
