GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Rockets Past $800 Million At The Global Box Office

Superhero fatigue be damned! James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has hit another box office milestone, having rocketed past $800 million worldwide.

Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has reached what will likely be its final milestone at the global box office, having now passed $800 million.

James Gunn's emotional MCU swansong currently sits at $805.9 million worldwide, and should finish its theatrical run with about $825M. This means it will have surpassed the first GOTG ($770M), but won't quite catch up to Vol. 2 ($869M).

Gunn has made it clear that this will be his last Guardians movie, but that doesn't mean a different incarnation of the team won't feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point with a new director. In the mid-credits scene, we find out that Rocket is now leading a new crew, and the final title card all-but confirms Chris Pratt's eventual return as Star-Lord.

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in theaters.

@vectorsigma - And the excuse is what it always is - the other countries are racists! This is why they do race swaps. To give them an excuse when their projects fail. It’ll barely break even considering the $250 million production budget and marketing costs. Big fail considering how popular the original still is to this day.

@vectorsigma - while Spiderverse does just fine as did black panther

and yet the media blames racism

@dracula - I don’t know why things are performer bad or not, but black women are much more hated than black men. Wakanda forever didn’t do so well in China where as the first one did. Who knows if that played a factor

@MyCoolYoung - it's not on gender imo. The race swap turned off ofher countries which are shall we sau, culturally conservative.

Black Panther is known to be black and the whole of Wakanda. Imagine casting a whote actor for BP

@dracula - i hope these companies stop with the race swaps and all with the flopping of this.

They can do all the representation they want using the right story and IP

@mountainman - i hope this hurts disney so much that they will learn their lesson.

@vectorsigma - At minimum we are still getting a race swapped Snow White from them. And Dreamworks seem to be giving us a black Astrid in the live action How to Train Your Dragon.

I think there will have to be more flops before the studios move on from this stupid practice.

@vectorsigma - So, just to be clear, you believe that you being offended by a fictional character being of a different heritage trumps the need for inclusion and diversity for children? You know, the people Disney generally makes movies for even if adults thread about them. That's called white fragility brother. Whether or not you agree, that's between you and the internet, I guess. It just seems a little selfish and almost petty? And I mean the blanket argument about race swapping, it's not aimed at you. Just trying to shed some light on something it wouldn't be too hard to practice having empathy about.

@vectorsigma - The Black Panther thing is like saying imagine a tall guy playing Tyrion Lannister. Tchalla isn't black, he's black royalty. Therein lies his racially steady importance.

@mountainman - That makes no sense whatsoever. If you’re thinking is right, and I’m not endorsing it as so, they purposefully set up to fail by changing race so that they will have an excuse when it fails. That makes no sense. Why would they purposely set up to fail? There are much easier ways to do a write off if they need one.
