Earlier today,
the news broke that
Thor: Love and Thunder will feature the Guardians of the Galaxy's Marvel Cinematic Universe return. Now, though, Vin Diesel has revealed a potentially significant detail about where James Gunn plans on taking Groot in the upcoming
Vol. 3.
As you'll no doubt recall, we met Groot in 2014's
Guardians of the Galaxy, Baby Groot in
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. back in 2017, and then Teenage Groot in the following year's
Avengers: Infinity War. The sentient tree is bound to have been through some changes in the years that followed, and it sounds like he will now become..."Alpha" Groot?!
"I only have two words about that character and it is 'Alpha Groot,'" Diesel revealed during a recent interview to promote his new movie
Bloodshot. What is Alpha Groot? Your guess is as good as ours, but this does seem like a somewhat natural progression for the character from here.
After all, it would be a lot of fun to see that weedy teenage version of Groot now bulked up and an absolute force to be reckoned with! Alternatively, Diesel could just mean that the hero will take on a leadership role in the team, something we've definitely not seen from him before now.
Whatever the case may be, Groot is clearly going through even more changes in the MCU moving forward, and that's something we should definitely excited about (especially now Gunn is set to make his return to the franchise).
