James Gunn Responds To Disney's Decision To Fire Him From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

As you're now no doubt well aware, James Gunn's recent political comments resulted in those who disagree with the filmmaker's point of view scouring through his Twitter account and bringing some remarks he made back in 2010 back into the public eye. Deciding those Tweets were out of line (the subject matter was controversial, to say the least) Disney quickly decided to sever all ties with him.

As a result, he will no longer take the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Gunn has now responded to the studio's decision to fire him. What's truly bizarre about this entire situation is the fact he already said sorry for these remarks back in 2012 after being hired to direct Guardians of the Galaxy so why Disney was okay with them then but not now is something fans are struggling to figure out.

"My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

"Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all."

Following his firing, Gunn has been removed from Sony's Hall H panel later today where he was expected to promote an upcoming horror movie he's produced at the studio. Whether or not that was related to the Spider-Verse is unknown. What are your thoughts on the filmmaker's apology? Do you think he deserved to be fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Sound off on that down below.
