Pom Klementieff Teases An Awkward Mantis And Romance With Drax In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Pom Klementieff's Mantis looks to be a unique addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the actress has teased her "lonely and awkward" character, and a possible romantic connection with Drax...

We've only seen her in a few brief trailer scenes, but the newest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Mantis (played by Pom Kelementieff), has made quite an impression with fans. The character will be introduced as an attedant to Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet when she meets the team - in fact, she's spent her whole life with him.  "So, she's an alien. And she's always with — at the beginning, she's spent her life with Kurt Russell's character," Klementieff told Mashable. "She was pretty lonely and then she meets the Guardians and...that's it. She has empathetic powers, so it's connected with feelings and emotions.

In yesterday's character report, Mantis was described as "very naive", something that Klementieff says stems from her time in isolation. "There's an awkwardness and a curiosity and ... how do you say? She wants to discover new things...she was really lonely and by herself, so it's a completely new thing to meet these people and to discover new things and new emotions and a new way of sharing things...I think it's like a kid, you know? You discover things and you're curious about things and you make mistakes and you say, like, weird things or you're awkward. And I think in a way it's touching when you see someone do that. You're like, Oh! OK, you're not really adapted to this society." The publication tried to ask Klementieff if Mantis was an adopted daughter of sorts to Ego, or what her ties might be to Ego's son Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), but her publicist was quick to prevent any more details from coming out.

The actress revealed that both her character and Drax (Dave Bautista) would find some common ground as friends in the film. "They get along. They just — there is a friendship going on and they just click, you know?" When asked if this meant that there would be a deeper romantic connection brewing between the two, Klementieff was coy. "You'll see, you'll see!" As for the other Guardians, things don't go so smoothly. "There is a funny moment, but I can't really tell. She's trying to connect with [Rocket Raccoon] and it doesn't really work."

You can see more of Mantis when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. releases on May 5, 2017.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. Am I the only one who feels Gunn is keeping something big concerning Kurt Russell's character from us? Klementieff was about to say Kurt Russell's character name but quickly backed off and used his name instead when describing her origin. Don't you think it would've been fine just to say "Ego?" We all know who he's playing . . . right?

@Benjamitesandwich - yeah, it's weird. even the new poster has the actors' names alongside their character names except for him.
Stallone's character is also a mistery.

@Benjamitesandwich - I could be wrong, but I think this interview is from the set visit back when they were filming. Back then we didn't know Russell was playing Ego.

@Benjamitesandwich, @Spidey91, @SpoonWielder -

Have you guys considered that Gunn is going to try to do both? That is, create a new origin that makes sense to the MCU, while still trying to pay homeage to the comics?

So Ego is a living planet, but a planet none the less. What if he was able to create some sort of vessel for himself (a neurally linked humanoid body) named J'son (Jason Quill) and travels the galaxy. And when he does so he tells people he's the king--which isn't entirely a lie. (And if the movie goes as far as to name the solar system that Ego resides in as "Spartax", he could very well name himself to be the King of the Spartax empire....Which in the movies would turn out to be nothing. Like when Peter calls himself "Starlord" and no one knew what he was talking about)

Meanwhile, J'son could have rescued baby Mantis during one of his travels. And so she grew up safe...but alone on Ego.

I don't know why, but I'm not to fussed about this film. Just not feeling it. I'm well keen for Spideys return and Thor 3. I didn't like the first 2 Thor films and I'm hoping Taika Watiti has sorted this out. However, Ragnarok being so dark but with a comedy based direction makes me worry for it being a bit of a tonal mess.

@Antoin - right there with ya.

Gotg is my second favorite marvel film, but that trailer was cringey as [frick].

Drax seems retarded, baby groot is annoying, Peter is just there being awkward.

It has a good look, but other than that there isn't much positive I can say about it.

I'd say this is the movie of 2017 that worries me the most.

I know people will think "what about justice league" yeah I'm not worried about that. I didn't have much faith in the first place. I'm sure it will just be more of the same ol' dceu.

@ALostCause - Yeah, seems a bit they are aware of the success from the first one. I'm not getting fresh vibes from this. I'm hoping as I didn't enjoy the trailer that the film will be great. I will most likely go to the cinema to see it but I'm not that excited for it.
