HALLOWEEN TV Series Will Ignore Recent Trilogy & Return To Carpenter's Original For Full "Creative Reset"

We have some updates on Miramax's plans to bring the Halloween franchise to the small screen, and it sounds like we will be getting new takes on Michael Myers and Laurie Strode...

We thought Halloween Ends would be the last we'd see of Michael Myers (at least for the foreseeable future), but you just can't keep a good masked maniac down.

The news broke last October that the iconic slasher franchise was to be resurrected for the small screen, with Miramax securing the rights after a bidding war. The project was "envisioned to potentially launch a cinematic universe spanning film and television," and we now have some updates which may not sit well with fans of David Gordon Green's recent trilogy or those hoping that this show would be more of anthology akin to the original concept for Halloween 3: Season of The Witch.

According to Marc Helwig, Miramax Head Of Worldwide Television (via Deadline), the Halloween TV series will serve as a "creative reset," which will go back to John Carpenter's original classic and focus on characters introduced in that movie and, from the sounds of things, its direct sequels.

“We’re on a fast track, it’s a big priority for us. We’ve had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I think we’ll have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to be doing very soon,” Helwig said, adding, “We’re hoping to lock down the creative team very soon.”

“The foundation of it is the original film, the John Carpenter movie, the characters of that film, and perhaps a group of characters that we haven’t really focused on that much in recent film versions or even in a number of them,” Helwig continued. “It’s a creative reset completely and going back to the original film, as opposed to spinning out of any of the more recent film adaptations.”

So, it sounds like the plan is to recast the likes of Myers, Laurie Strode, Doctor Loomis, and... The Shape's knife-fodder? To be fair, Halloween 4 did introduce a fan-favorite character in Laurie's niece (Danielle Harris), so focusing on a new take on Jamie Lloyd could certainly be interesting - or better yet, have Harris reprise the role.

What do you make of this news? Drop us a comment down below.

After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before. Only one of them will survive.

Icon Jamie Lee Curtis returns for the last time as Laurie Strode, horror’s first ‘final girl’ and the role that launched Curtis’ career. Curtis has portrayed Laurie for more than four decades now, one of the longest actor-character pairings in cinema history. When the franchise relaunched in 2018, Halloween shattered box office records, becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing chapter and set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for a horror film starring a woman.

“Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.”

I’m so over Halloween. You can only go so far with a antagonist as basic as Micheal Meyers..

@TheLobster - They've been going for 45 years and still making movies that make over 100 million dollars. Clearly you're talking BS nonsense.

@TheLobster - I agree but then not big on the more slasher type horrors anyway...

...but they kept making enough money to warrant more so obviously enough out there that don't agree with us which is fair enough even if that is in large part due to not going above a $20M production budget for any of them.

Anyways, still love the Star Trek connection with the first that I never knew about for decades lmao

@TheLobster - They just can't seem to quit, can they? This will be a dumpster fire ... unless they pull off a miracle like Chucky's tv show. That show is awesome.

@Apophis71 - That'd be so cool if Shatner made a cameo at some point and comes face to face with the shape.

@TheLobster -

I will never be over Halloween. It's part of my childhood and inspired me to become a cereal killer. I pretend it's Laurie stode. Do it every morning. Taste so good🙋

@AnthonyVonGeek - I'm sure I'm in a minority but I actually liked Ends as a standalone

They don't need to continue with a new Michael Myers story. It'd either have to be in the past (80s-ish which is fashionable) to have a 25 year old Michael Myers killing, take place today and a 70 year old Michael (which we literally just did with 2018) or be a prequel, which we partially saw in the Zombie movies anyway and don't need.

Either anthology this shit, or continue with Corey Cunningham. I'm in the minority, but I liked Ends actually and he can be a good character to continue with now that he's established.

@MarkCassidy - so is Michael…

Shot 6 times in 1978
Blown up in a hospital
Shot down a mineshaft
Beheaded
Burnt again (x2)

They always come back

I do agree that it would be good to honor Carpenter's intents to do an anthology

I don't get the anthology angle. Micheal is the star. If you do an anthology it can be called anything. 💁
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/9/2024, 12:39 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - he's a pretty bland star.

The anthology angle is what Carpenter wanted and it would be Halloween because that would have been the shared element of each film.

@DannRamm113 - Corey's dead, stupid and he has nothing to offer as a villain really character wise that isn't just Michael again (which case, no reason to not use Michael then), unless you make him more like a new character, then using him loses the point except maybe liking for the actor.

*he's a pretty bland star*

That "bland star" is the star. He is iconic. These are facts. He is the leader of the highest grossing slasher franchise ever😎

Go beg for a creep show remake or a trick or treat sequel💁

This is a Michael Myers franchise. Period🖖

@DannRamm113 - yeah but Michael is "the Boogeyman"... Corey was just some messed up kid. I mean they could bring him back obviously, but I'm not sure anyone would buy it.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 3/9/2024, 2:56 PM
@MarkCassidy - I read Corey as a way to tell an origin story for Michael without having to make it about Michael. It leaves him the unexplainable phenomenon, but the audience can glean some context and background.

I think its a very interesting idea, even if it didn't entirely pan out.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/9/2024, 6:59 PM
@MarkCassidy - it would be weird because it would go against a lot of what the Blumhouse stuff was going for.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/9/2024, 7:05 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - the first film was excellent, don't get me wrong.
I actually even liked some of what they did with the Blumhouse stuff.
The rest is pretty crappy and shits on what Carpenter was going for and what made the original so good.
I'll take the artist's vision over shameless cash grabs that just cheapened the original rather than do anything really compelling.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/9/2024, 7:07 PM
@dagenspear - yeah, sadly the concept was killed. What Carpenter had in mind seemed pretty cool imo

@DannRamm113 - he was not beheaded. It was an EMT.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/10/2024, 11:40 AM
@RolandD - honestly had it not been for 2, I think 3 could have been received a little less harshly.
They were trying to go back on the anthology plan but at that point had already caved to making a direct sequel.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/10/2024, 11:42 AM
@DannRamm113 - Michael was killed in the original sequel timelines. The Blumhouse films ignored all of that to create a continuity that stuck to the original's portrayal of something not explicitly supernatural.
Hell, Ends makes a point of portraying just how mortal Myers is with the point of the horror being that evil itself is immortal and shapeless.
