While it was essentially an open secret, John Krasinski has officially confirmed (via his personal social media pages) that, in addition to penning the script, he will indeed return to direct the highly-anticipated sequel to his 2018 horror hit, A Quiet Place.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that original cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe are currently in talks to reprise their respective roles as the Abbott family and should close their deals within the week. Both young actors are under option for a sequel, but Blunt, who won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role, is expected to take another pay cut to accommodate the sequel's modest budget and to work alongside her husband once again.

Plot details remain under wraps, but Paramount Pictures is currently eyeing a July production start date.

The critically-acclaimed first film carried an estimated $17 million production budget and ultimately grossed over $340.9 million worldwide ($188M domestic; $152.9M foreign).

Awesome, first one was great so hopefully the sequel is just as good, if not better.

Sometimes I wish highely successful movies would just leave it at one, but this could be interesting.

Given that we've seen so much of the creatures and know their weaknesses; a sequel is going to be.. difficult.

I liked the first movie but I have two questions that maybe someone could explain:

1. Why didn't they just LIVE by/under the waterfall? Seems like it'd be an easy way to avoid the monsters.

2. Where did the random old man come from and why was he just placed there as a convenient plot device to bring the monsters to Krasinski and his son?

@L0RDbuckethead -
1. Realistically, who's going to build a damn house during the apocalypse? It's only 2020 in the film, assuming that the apocalypse broke out when the film released, that isn't a lot of time to get used to the apocalypse, get supplies, etc. All silently, as well as build a house. I know I wouldn't have tried to build a house, the waterfall would just be something you'd visit on occasion - or if somebody needed to give birth. That's the real issue, but that may have been their plan all along but her water broke during a precarious time and they just had to deal with it - hence the precaution of the fireworks.

2. Doesn't matter. The family aren't the only people left alive. It's perfectly reasonable to assume they could stumble across someone else.

@Nebula - Realistically? The waterfall is the place where there is always noise from the waterfall. The monsters stay away because that must be annoying to them. In such a situation where those things are roaming around everywhere, yeah, I'd be building some alternative sort of dwelling right at that waterfall.
ImmovableForce
ImmovableForce - 2/22/2019, 3:28 PM
Also, what are other people going to do? Complicate things.
ImmovableForce
ImmovableForce - 2/22/2019, 3:32 PM
Hmm, I forgot about the "weakness" they discovered. I actually forgot what exactly it was, a certain tone of sound I think? Well, that might change my plan.

@ImmovableForce - How are you going to go about building a house during the apocalypse? It'd make a lot more sense to make your basement sound-proof or something, what do they do in the film, oh yeah. Paper-mache and mattress-ing the walls of a pre-existing house is a lot more feasible for an average family to do than construct any kind of livable structure under a waterfall.
Nebula
Nebula - 2/22/2019, 4:31 PM
@ImmovableForce - The weakness was high-pitch and/or exceedingly loud noises.

@Nebula - Well, in that situation, the reward would be worth the effort of building a house quietly, considering you'd end up with some place always hidden by the waterfall noise. You'd just have to be careful while building and the priority wouldnt be to make a NICE house, but to build SOMETHING to live in, a shelter.
Nebula
Nebula - 2/22/2019, 6:36 PM
@ImmovableForce - Yeah, obviously it'd be difficult to do it quietly, I'm saying how would you possibly go about doing it at all? Or am I the only person who missed the mandatory human-lesson involving shelter construction? The best the average person could do is find a couple of tents and put them there, but that's no way to live permanently, even in the apocalypse - they'd likely freeze to death. In the pre-built farmhouse, you've got a massive amount of food and a sound-proof room - which near enough negates the point of constructing something near the waterfall.

@ImmovableForce - it's completely impossible to build anything quietly. That's the least if the problems with this movie. It's just plain dumb.
Nebula

@docgl - The waterfall nullifies any noise - obviously. And you think the film is the dumb one.

I'm definitely not interested in a sequel to this one. I barely made it through the first. So much silence, followed by loud noises, kind of annoying. I was seeing too many dumb decisions by the characters.

This was absolutely the stupidest movie ever made. I'm still stunned at how much money it made. I walked out at a point where I just couldn't take any more of the inconsistent action and stupidity of the script. How do they have electricity? How can he use a telegraph key since the windows aren't padded? They become sounding boards! How do you run water and do laundry without making noise? The final straw was the nail in the step! Sheer stupidity!

@docgl - The family have a solar panels and a sound-proof room.

As if your criticism wasn't already void by the fact that you left the theatre mid-way through.

@docgl - Jesus man... you’re on a site calling out what’s logical and what’s not, yet you’re on a site thats dedicated to illogical/fantasy/sci-fi/comicbook literature and movies, and NOW beacause this film rubbed you the wrong way you wanna preach about what’s logical and not? Sh*t man...
TheOverseer
TheOverseer - 2/22/2019, 11:03 PM

docgl
docgl - 2/23/2019, 6:11 AM
@TheOverseer - then please explain? Especially how a nail wound up in a step upside down and bent over? No one is stupid enough to leave that nail there. The rest is just as dumb. Where 8s the electricity coming from? I'll stop with those two.

docgl - 2/23/2019, 6:19 AM
@Se4M4NSt4ine - fantasy is not illogical. It doesn't take place in the real world. This movie was supposed to be set in on earth in real life situations with an invasion. The laws of science, nature and physics still apply.

Guess I'm in the minority when it comes to a quiet place. Had an extremely strong premise but the movie was weak for me
