Juan Antonio Bayona Chosen To Direct WORLD WAR Z Sequel

World War Z was the surprise hit of the summer, but after reports that star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster at one point stopped talking, it should come as no surprise that a new director has been found for the sequel; The Impossible's Juan Antonio Bayona. Read on for details!

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Juan Antonio Bayona - who directed 2012's tsunami drama The Impossible - is officially on board to helm the World War Z sequel. Despite the fact that many analysts were gleefully predicting that the movie would be a critical and commercial failure, it went on to earn over $540 million worldwide. The production problems and reshoots were well-publicised (the entire third act was changed and Matthew Fox's character was almost completely cut out as a result), so it's perhaps not that huge of a surprise that Marc Forster isn't returning. According to the site, "Bayonna was on the very short shortlist of directors a few weeks ago. He met with Pitt, who produced the movie via his Plan B banner and is also producing the sequel, before getting the gig. No writers are attached at this stage, but Bayona will oversee the writing process." Bayona also directed the Guillermo del Toro-produced The Orphanage.

I liked wwz, I'd watch a sequel, as long as it doesn't rely on another sequel to conclude the story

World War Z is over rated. I think, trying to make a better movie, doing reshoots and rewrites, they messed up the movie

The book was awesome, but the movie was just ok. Nothing like the book, (would've been better if it followed the book), but it was a PG-13 zombie movie that turned out better than I thought it would. I'll see the sequel.

I guess this is cool. I love World War Z. That film was an absolute masterpiece and it was creative with the zombie genre.

I'm looking forward to the sequel but i'm worried about this new director.

WWZ is one of the finest zombie movies ever, if it wasnt for the pg13 it would probably be my favourite of the bunch. Ive got high hopes for this.
