M. Night Shyamalan’s Next Film KNOCK AT THE CABIN Gets An Official 2023 Release Date & Teaser

Following the success of Old, director M. Night Shyamalan has set an early 2023 release date for his next theatrical venture, Knock at the Cabin, which will surely feature plenty of big twists and turns.

Director M. Night Shyamalan (Unbreakable; Split; Glass) has revealed tonight that his eagerly awaited next directorial venture will be titled Knock at the Cabin, with Universal announcing that it will open in theaters worldwide on February 3, 2023.

Plot details are currently unknown, but Shyamalan teased the development of the film's script in late August, saying at the time that it was one of his tightest yet, with the third draft coming in at under 100 pages.

Shyamalan's last project, the psychological thriller Old, was a massive box office success this past summer, grossing over $90.1 million globally on a very modest $18 million production budget and proving yet again that he remains one of Hollywood's most bankable directors.

Looking ahead, not much is scheduled for early 2023 - something that will surely change in the coming months - but for the time being, only Sony/Marvel's Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are currently dated in that same time frame. However, the former will open on January 13 while the latter is set for February 17, so neither is likely to provide much competition to Shyamalan at the time of release.

I'm in. I'm loving this stage of his career where he's just embraced his weirdness and is putting out the most bizarre movies he can think up. I have no clue what to expect from this, and that excites me.

@AmazingFILMporg - His last two movies haven't had twists.

@MUTO123 - I'd argue Old's whole "They're medical test subjects" thing was the twist.

@Reeds2Much - I don't think so, because they give you enough hints early on that the resort is responsible for what's going on, they just don't say exactly what until the end. To me, a twist is when it completely changes your viewing experience when you watch it the second time. Unbreakable's the perfect example of that; you experience the movie one way the first time you watch it, and then when you watch it again knowing what's really going on, everything that comes out of Samuel Jackson's mouth has a completely different meaning to it. Same with The Sixth Sense. Same with The Visit. Same with Split. So on that level, I don't really consider Old one of his twist movies.

M. Night is slowly getting his groove back. The first half of Old was solid but I was let down by the ending. He is really good at hooking the audience in with an intriguing premise but sometimes the ending doesn't live up to everything that came before. I remain cautiously optimistic about this one.

M Night Shamwowalan at his best is an enjoyable mind screw, and at his worst a hilariously goofy hour and a half, so either way it's a win in my messed up book.

He's definitely made a comeback. "Split" was such an unremarkable film.

Something about Shyamalan saying "Super tight" about one of his movies makes me think of the way he jammed the entirety of Avatar Book One into The Last Travesty.. I mean Airbender

Man I havent enjoyed an M. Night film since Signs.

Won't watch it in theatres, the man is so clearly past his creative prime. 'Split' being his only recent good film, one that he wrote before his decline in the early 2000s.

I hope he manages to dig himself out of the hole he dug for himself but at this point I'm really not so sure anymore.

I've got a soft spot for M. Night, signs and the village were some of the first films that creeped me out as a kid. I still remeber thinking the "party" scene in signs was real the first time I saw it. The guy isn't the greatest director ever, but in interviews he seems like a good guy who enjoys what he does, who am I to hate on that.

I liked Old. It does have plenty of his familiar unusual dialogue, the occasional off-acting, and unique camera work. I get plenty of the complaints folks have against it, but it’s a very unique movie and it gets darn freaky at times.
