Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they're infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

The Thing hits theaters on October 14, 2011.

Yeah, great, part of the tautness of the original was not knowing who was human. If you watch that trailer a few more times, you could easily knock out a few suspects. Not too smart.

It does look good, but it's basically just copying a near masterpiece so of course it does! Hope it brings SOMETHING new to the table

They are doing lots of reboots, prequels, and reworks of Carpenter material.

As long as they do not touch Big Trouble in Little China. That movie simply CAN NOT be improved on.

Looks pretty cool but yeah not very smart to spoil the victims.
It takes away the tension.

Ror, looks like the only thing they are contributing is obvious CGI. You know, to help pull us out of the borrowed storyline and remind us of the love that was put into the much better practical effects of the masterpiece.

There was a game a while back called "The Thing". Good horror game. Based on the '82 movie. Shows how wild a movie could get. And from this trailer, it looks like this movie is a combination from the sequel and the game. And that my friends, in my book...is a win.

This movie will have its hands full. I watched the John Carpenter movie again a few months back and the special effects still look mind blowing nearly 30 years after the fact.

Yeah, looks promising but it's got a steep hill to climb to match Carpenter's masterpiece.

@ Kinski - exactly my thought. Not sure what the point of a prequel is. Just piggybacking on an old concept.

What contrived bollocks. So suddenly in the Norwegian camp there was an YOUNG American scientists fresh out of grad-school sent to a foreign Alaskan base and every Norwegian spoke English conveniently for us to understand. Yet in the original movies No cute young females in improbable jobs surrounded by men who aint sniffed a pussy for months and all the notes and research they found was unreadable to them in NORWEGIAN and not a cute young yank doctor in any of the video footage they recovered?

It's amazing how Hollywood knows spectacle and Special Effects can wash away any need for common sense and continuity when it comes to modern day audiences!

@Ceejay

you are so right. Should have left this film and story alone. It was meant to be one film. Thats why its so creepy.

Looks good, but the only problem I have with today's prequels is that they look too advanced to be a prequel because of today's advanced, movie making technology. Am I I right, or do the Norwegians possess a greater technology than we in the states have? lol

They still have prosthetics/practical effects you guys, some of the cast members revealed as much in a few interviews, and they said it was an actual drama, not a stupid horror film that would star Hilary Duff and you'd see boobs after a death scene lol, it will be nothing like that, so they say. The co-star of Mary even said that people ask if another movie is necessary to this storyline, and he thinks that this movie is justified because of all of the creepy, unanswered questions you got when MacReady and the Doc search that Norweigian camp. (Like the guy who was frozen in the chair who had committed suicide).

And somebody posted pics of those prosthetic/modeled creatures a while ago, which were set images/props.

@ TheQuestion0

i believe your problem with the date is.

how we write the date in the uk is 20.9.11.

but in america its written 9.20.11

so if you swap day & month around you should be able to veiw the trailer.
