Principal photography has commenced in Toronto, Ontario on the highly anticipated horror film CARRIE, it was announced today by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Screen Gems. Director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry; Stop-Loss) reimagines Stephen King’s best-selling novel for MGM and Screen Gems’ take on the enduring genre classic. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo), four time Oscar-nominee Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love; The Kids are Alright) and Judy Greer (The Descendants), CARRIE tells the supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers. CARRIE is slated for a 2013 theatrical release.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

MGM and Screen Gems’ CARRIE is directed by Kimberly Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies). J. Miles Dale (The Vow) serves as executive producer and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) wrote the script from King’s original story. CARRIE’s creative team includes Director of Photography Steve Yedlin (Looper), Production Designer Carol Spier (Eastern Promises),Costume Designer Luis Sequeira (The Thing) and Editor Lee Percy (Boys Don’t Cry).

Many thanks to Page To Premiere for the above set photo. The original Carrie has become something of a cult classic, although a remake far more faithful to the Stephen King book should come as good news to fans. The actress recently told Vanity Fair, "I’m not watching it (1976 Carrie) in preparation for the movie because we’re doing something totally different and I’m trying to bring my own take into it. I am changing everything about me—my hair, my look. I’m doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version—it messes with your mind."

Carrie has already been re-made half a dozen times, at least in the direct-to-dvd/TV sense, but c'mon, has Hollywood really gotten to the point where they have to make remakes of remakes of remakes?

I would sooner sit through Battleship than watch another Carrie movie...

Personally didnt think that Carrie needed remade but hey welcome to Hollywood, Moretz is a little hottie so im afriad she'll come off too cute for audiences to belive shes bullied and what not I mean Sissy has a strange look about her that helped you believe how shy and uncomfortable around people she was.

Before I read the title, I saw the image of her, and thought she was was Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Chloe is one very mature looking girl!

They're casting a 15 year old for a high school part? Huh? Incredible!

That being said...another remake...another indication that Hollywood is out of ideas.

@thecrisisking well thats prolly a picture of her in costume but off set so thats prolly why she has a cellphone. And she is a very cute girl, hell sissy spacek wasnt THAT bad looking in the original. I have hope cuz Chloe is a very good actress so i'll give this remake the benefit of the doubt

It sounds like she'll just be the sheltered shy girl and yeah, looks or not, the Mean Girls will destroy anyone who is an obstacle. So nothing wrong with her having some looks. And Chloe can do the angry facial expressions with the best of them. But I can already see this movie getting attacked for it "encouraging bullied kids to harm their bullies". I'm intrigued but I still won't go see it in theaters. Been to this dance enough to know the playlist.

If i wasn't mistaken it would be third time for this film to have it's reboot. the original is now a classic.

Oh look, Chloe found one face for her character that she'll overly exploit the entire film. Shocker.

See, I am totally with everybody that says that this is unnecessary. In it's way, Carrie is a real classic, and they probably just shouldn't even go there because if it isn't just utterly amazing, people will forever be comparing it unfavorably to the original.

I am in high school, so I know first hand you can be gorgeous/cute/pretty/sexy and be the biggest outcast.

There are always pretty girls who are outcasts...so I don't think that being "too pretty" exists for such a role.
Unless, of course you are following the cliche that only the geeks, uglies, and poors are outcasts.

Movies are NOTHING like real school.

A Carrie remake?! I would normally say: "Booo!!!" — but Chloë Grace Moretz in the title role is worth a look.

Here come all the pedophiles that are going to lust on Chloe because she engaged in over-the-top violence and gave an average performance in one movie a couple years ago.

All i know is i still want theatrical version of IT and make it creepy and scary as hell, damn the standards these days of what passes as a " horror" film. U can make it a two parter so we can get everything from the novel in it....and i still say Vincent D'onofrio as Pennywise the clown :]

KungFuGee - 6/27/2012, 8:43 PM
Nope... not watchin it. The movie has been done already. There are millions of untold stories out there... and this is what they come up with. I wish they would stop trying to feed us the same crap re-hashed.

The cool thing about rebooting this movie is that this may lead to them doing more reboots of King's movies, which then could lead to The Dark Tower movies to tie them all together!
