TOXIC AVENGER: Jacob Tremblay To Star Alongside Peter Dinklage In Legendary's Reboot

Legendary's reboot of Troma classic The Toxic Avenger has enlisted Jacob Tremblay (Room, The Predator) to star alongside Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage, who will play the deformed vigilante of the title.

We found out back in 2018 that Toxie was set to get a new lease of life at Legendary Pictures when the studio acquired the rights to Troma's mutated cult hero, and more recently, news broke that none other than Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage would be the one to pick up the mop and make it his mission to strike fear into New Jersey's criminal underbelly as the Toxic Avenger.

Now, Deadline reports that Jacob Tremblay (Room, The Predator, Good Boys) is set to join the Avengers: Infinity War actor in the upcoming reboot.

No details in his role were provided, but based on the synopsis, there's a good chance he'll play Toxie's son.

The Toxic Avenger was first introduced in the 1984 movie of the same name from indie studio Troma Entertainment, and has since gone on to achieve cult status with several sequels, a comic book series and even a children's animated show called The Toxic Crusaders.

It sounds like this contemporary take will follow the same basic premise as the original, as "a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste and is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed."

Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) is set to helm the project, with the first film's directors Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz on board as producers.

I thought he was good, albeit annoying, in Room and Good Boys

But his absolute best performance was in Doctor Sleep. His look of paralyzing fear when the Knot had him was amazing.

Is he a teen yet?

It's always slightly worrisome when child actors approach adulthood. The real test begins, seeing if their childhood acting chops translate. Sometimes they actually get worse as they grow up.

I get the feeling that Dinklage is playing Toxie pre-transformation. Then another actor would play the role once he is fully mutated.

What a weird movie to be in, i wonder if they are toning down the character? Other thing that i'm curious is why James Gunn doesnt feature Lloyd Kaufman cameos in his films anymore

Melvin Junko was no everyman. He was a bona fide loser.

As much as the idea of Peter Dinklage as Toxie amuses me, there's no way Legendary can hit the heights (lows?) of Troma.

@Reeds2Much - When I saw that scene that shocked the hell out of me as a kid.

Ahhh, the fond memories as a pre-teen and teen watching Tromaville movies on USA Up All Night!

I saw Toxic Avengers: The Musical at a dinner theater in Pittsburgh. It starred Evan Ruggerio, the one legged song and dance man. The bad guys actually ripped his leg off, beat him over the head with it and then dumped him into a vat of toxic whatever.

Good times!
