TRAIN TO BUSAN: James Wan To Produce Remake Of 2016's International Horror Blockbuster

James Wan and Gary Dauberman are coming off of a successful 2018. Wan, a veteran and the shepherd of The Conjuring universe just saw the release of The Nun. The spinoff, which was written by frequent collaborator Gary Dauberman, is already on pace to become the highest global grosser for the franchise. The two have just announced their latest project together.

In 2016, Train to Busan was a huge hit in South Korea. The zombie/what World War Z should've been horror film remains to be a model for what the genre should be. Though it gained a following through Netflix following its theatrical release, Wan and Dauberman are teaming up to create a remake for American audiences, similar to efforts to remake The Raid. Wan is set to produce the reimagining with Dauberman penning the screenplay. The film will be distributed by New Line.

Haven't seen the original yet, but it is on my list of must sees.

Really, really wish Wan was directing it though, from what i've read and seen from what the film is.

Wan is a horror genius and the best horror director working today, imo.

Seen the original last month! It’s brillant

Some of the acting is outstanding! I was hooked some very tense scenes

Especially when they are crawling above the zombies on the luggage rails

Be interesting to see who’s cast

No need for a remake that soon, do Americans don't watch Korean movies?
CurlyBill
CurlyBill - 9/26/2018, 3:30 PM
@Oskir - Sadly yes most Americans don't watch Korean films our any films from other countrys. I think a lot of it has to do with ability to find them. Films from other countrys just don't get promoted as much in the states.

@Oskir - I eat them up. Stumbled upon them un my warly teens. I think Americans do watch them. Look at how big Kpop and Kdramas arw here. Americans are aware and interested in Korean shit.

But Hollywood is too dumb to realize. Poach ideas because it cant come up with anything as inventive or original as Busan.

@Ha1frican - I hate subtitles but I watched this just because of all the positive talk about it. After the action kicked in I forgot I was even watching a subtitled foreign film. Awesome film but I can't see a remake topping it.

Saw this movie a few months back. It has to be, hands down, one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Train to Busan was one of the best movies of 2016 and its one of the best zombie movies made. No need to remake it.

Caught it on Netflix it wasn't to bad for a Zombie film. Anyone have any Netflix Horror film suggestions? I'm trying to get in the mood for Halloween, I've got The Witch to rewatch and Teriffier already on the list.

@CurlyBill - The Witch was an interesting movie. Hard to follow the dialogue sometimes, but definitely creepy.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Unfortunately I've already seen it and wasn't to impressed.

@Brodir - I thought it did a great job at building the atmosphere up. The whole time it just got darker and darker, I like that in a horror movie reminds me a lot of the original Halloween film.

Just watched this two weeks ago. It was a great movie. The zombies holding on to the back of the train was an amazing scene. Great acting, good effects, tense drama, and some great humor.

And which American bullet train would this remake be taking place on exactly?

Just...no. No. The definition of UNECESSARY. Original is a classic. Hollywood just poaches shit.

Saw the original last year, was meh for me, too much melodramatic shit, I hope the remake director toned down all that soap opera.

@Desrow - At least I'm not the only one who thought it was just meh. I'd love to see Wan's take on it actually.

I don't really see the need for a remake when the original is sooo good. Same as it was with OldBoy or The Secret in their Eyes... if you din't have anything new or better to say departing from the same basis, then just don't make the remake.

I caught this film on Netflix a couple weeks ago because I noticed people here talking about it and I enjoyed it very much. It had some elements of World War Z with the zombies being more reactionary than outright bloodthirsty. And the ending really hit me in the feels. Great film all around and will be interesting to see who is cast in the remake.

The Nun was incredibly underwhelming, so my hopes for this being as good as I've heard the original is are low.
