"Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller THE THING, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish."

High quality version should arrive online soon.

I forgot this movie was coming out! Surely they're not just going to call it "The Thing", since it's a prequel?

Technically, the original was John Carpenter's The Thing, so yeah. I think it's just going to be "The Thing," even if it is a prequel.

the original film was called "the thing from another world",the remake was john carpenter's the thing.

this is the prequel to john carpenter's the thing.

@ dynamo

I suppose it could work. But that's like calling the new Superman movie just "Superman" since the Donner movie was techincally called "Superman: The Movie".

So what name would you guys suggest? "The thing before the thing"?

If it where a sequal they could go the way of Alien 2 and call it "The Things"

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and call it a re-quel until I'm shown different because I guarantee this will take more than a few beats from Carpenter's movie.

ShadesAtKnight@ kind of what I was thinking as well, though I would go with...

The Thing: First Class

That way it is okay to have confusion and no one has to commit to what it is. Is it a prequel? Is it a reboot? Is it a re-imagining? Is it a combination of everything so fans can be even more confused? :-P

Not much into prequels so this will be a pass for me.

If its really not a remake (sure it isn't, hollywood) then why not at least call it "Thing" if they cant think of any other titles. If it's called the thing, then its a remake. I've never heard of a sequel/prequel that bears the same name as the original unless its a remake.

I'm just amazed that Hollywood thinks we need a prequel to movies that were good. The fact that this prequel is being made shows that Hollywood needs to reevaluate what their industry is, do we REALLY need to see rehashes of old films, or remakes to all things that didn't need them, or those pointless SEQUELS to movies that don't warrant them. I loved both versions of the Thing, both were strong and well done for their respected time periods. From what I heard that this is supposedly the group of Norwegians interacting with the Thing before the US team....uhhhhh spoiler alert....THE DOG GETS INFECTED!!! so we are getting TCM: The beginning but with the THING. Enough Hollywood...just.....enough....smh

It seems that poster is fake. If you look closely at the dude he has claws on his hands and that he may be a promo shot of Wolverine. Am I the only one who sees it?

I'd rather have a prequel than a remake any day. The Thing was an awesome movie, and if there's more to the story then I can't wait to see it, especially with some updated effects. I'm so glad this isn't just a remake, although I'm not sure I would mind if it was. i could see how a re imagining of that story with updated effects could be good as well.

The Hi-Res version looks much better.

@toad, those are his fingers, not wolverine's claws, it just looks like that way to you cause one of the fingers does kinda look like one of the claw extentions.

It also resembles the cover of the old film too, which is pretty cool.

That looks absolutely NOTHING like Ben Grimm....FAIL
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 7/11/2011, 8:34 PM
I think the low quality poster looks spookier.

@NeoBaggins: lol "The Damned Thing!" or even "That Damned Thing!" would be an interesting title. Might draw in more audiences.

. . . From the poster, I actually thought the movie was called "The Thing: It's Not Human. Yet."
headlopper
headlopper - 7/11/2011, 8:35 PM
Headlopper states the only 'Thing' movie we need is a version of the Marvel mini-series 'Freakshow' which came out a few years back.
Nuff' said.
