Rumor: THE INCREDIBLE HULK 2 Could Take Story Cues From Current Marvel NOW Comic

The rumor mill is churning out another regarding a future Marvel Studios movie. This time around, it's regarding a sequel to The Incredible Hulk. More after the jump...

So we've all heard the rumors saying a sequel to The Incredible Hulk could be based on comic book story arcs like Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. But Marvel Studios executives (thankfully) debunked those rumors because they want any future Hulk movie to focus more on actor Mark Ruffalo since he did sign a multi-picture deal with the studio.

This doesn't mean Marvel Studios isn't still looking for the basis of their next Hulk solo movie in the comics, past and/or present. Now, according to one of The Daily SuperHero's screenwriting sources—who is closely plugged into Marvel movie development ideas—word on the street says the Hulk sequel might be getting a treatment based on some of the Bruce Banner-specific concepts in Marvel NOW's Indestructible Hulk comic.

In case you are not familiar with the Indestructible Hulk comic, the basic premise of the story is that Hulk is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. To get into more detail about the current comic title, Banner feels he needs to give back to society so he approaches S.H.I.E.L.D. and asks for a lab where he can give the world inventions that will help society in exchange for letting S.H.I.E.L.D. "point and aim" the Hulk whenever needed.

So why would this work on the big screen? First of all, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has openly said the key to another Hulk film is Ruffalo's portrayal of Banner. Hulk is just the icing on the cake in any future movie. Plus, Marvel's continued vision and focus since the days of Stan Lee running the show has been all about the person and his or her character behind the hero. So far this has been true in Marvel's Phase 1 and seems to be continuing during Phase 2 as well.

In the case of an Indestructible Hulk-based movie script, Banner would definitely be a big focus. As would S.H.I.E.L.D and having Hulk as a SHIELD agent brings a more realistic use for the green hero instead of telling the story that he's always running and hiding to stay away from stress, anger and putting people in danger.

Even though this is just a rumor, it really has to make Marvel fans think that Marvel Studios' next Hulk solo movie could very well be titled, "Indestructible Hulk." If any of this is true, of course. But since any potential Hulk sequel is in the very early stages of any type of development and scripting, take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Would be nice to see Hulk not always just on the run. And seeing how he interacts with people who like consider him a threat and a menace would be interesting, and a nice change of pace. Plus I'm always game for more Ruffalo. Think he's an underrated actor

That sound like a clear winner to me. Mark Waid has been tearing it up at Marvel. By all means Feige after the Hulks critical reception after the Avengers this movie can easily hit half a billion or even a billion.

I'd be down with this, and it would fit moreso with his character development in THE AVENGERS.

I think that a new Hulk movie shouldn't be Incredible Hulk 2, but something different. I don't mean the title. It shouldn't go back to what the original did. It should be a lighter movie. Not Iron Man light, but lighter. Don't focus on Banner trying to hide and his depressing life. Do something new. So I think this would be a great idea for a new Hulk movie (if we get it anytime soon).

Who would be the villain though? The Leader? Other than him there rrally isn't anymore interesting Hulk villains left becausd ye dpesn't have a good rogues gallery. Plus, Hulk had two movies already both of them modest successes you could say.

I like this, and it definitely makes more sense than having him running around and crushing stuff just for the sake of it. I hope this pans out.

Ruffalo's Banner is what made Hulk such a hot topic in Avengers. The natural and wise choice to put the focus on him for a new film.

Sounds good. Would definitely be better than another "Hulk being chased by the military" movie. Plus, Marvel likes to have movies and comics tied rather closely as of recent, so it would make sense to go this route.

I loved the Incredible Hulk movie but I want to see an intelligent Hulk like in Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. Those two story lines were amazing. I'm reading the Hulk comic now issue to issue and it's okay but I want him to talk more like he did when they rebooted his book 2 years ago. No more stupid, mindless monster Hulk. I never liked that. I like the premise of Marvel NOW's Indestructible Hulk. That could be cool to see in the movies.

Absolutely love Indestructible Hulk. Probably my number #2 favorite Marvel Now comic.

1. Thor
2. Hulk
3. Hawkeye
4. Fantastic 4
5. All New/Uncanny X-Men.

I'm on board with this idea. I've only read the first issue of Indestructible, but I think it's a sensible direction for the Hulk of the MCU. How many movies can he be trying to cure himself or living away from society? IH showed him figuring out that the Hulk can be used for good. Avengers showed a Hulk that was less of a wild beast and could conceivably be used for controllable good. Banner finding a way to live his life and put the Hulk to use for SHIELD feels like a pretty natural next step.

I dont dislike the series... but there is nothing great about it so far. The armor, however, is absolutely horrendous. I would not want to see Ruffalo working with S.H.I.E.L.D. for more than 10 minutes. It's extremely sad that Marvel cannot or will not even try to modernize MU history and instead keep going to whats happening in the comics. I find it extremely hard to give a [frick] about MCU these days.

I think this would work very well for Hulk, hes pretty much accepted as a hero now post Avengers and with SHIELDs help he could probably do good with his intellect and Hulks raw power.

I don't get much Marvel comics but Hulk & Daredevil are so great.

I may get on Marvel's ass but I would do anything to see my favorite Jolly Green Giant on the big screen.

YES! THIS is what we need from a Hulk movie! Hulk has always been one of my favorite characters, but hasn't had too good of a movie on his own (even though I enjoyed TIH, I know a lot of people who did not).

Include in the film that Banner has a lawyer abd have him have multiple phone calls with the lawyer.

End the film with the revealment of his lawyer as Matt Murdock in his Daredevil suit.

Took the words right out of my mouth. This or Planet Hulk would make for good Hulk movies.

Hulk wears armor because in case he's into enemy territory and changes into Banner, he has protective armor on.

It makes sense.

While I appreciate them wanting to veer away from the "running away and hiding", I don't like the fact that it sounds like the green monster won't be the focus.

I like Banner but I want a Hulk film where he IS the Hulk for the majority of the film. Not just in some small scenes.

It would be CGI filled and expensive, but look at Transformers.

Marketing would sell itself. COME ON MARVEL, GIVE US THE HULK NOT BANNER
