WORLD WAR HULK: Rumored New Details Reveal An Unexpected Approach To The Classic Comic Book Storyline

Surprising new rumoured details about Marvel Studios' plans for a World War Hulk movie have been revealed, and it sounds like we'll see the Green Goliath cross paths with the Red Hulk sooner than expected!

We've been hearing social media buzz about a possible World War Hulk project at Marvel Studios for at least the past couple of years. Where it potentially fits into the wider Multiverse Saga is hard to say, though it seems the story isn't necessarily going to be what you'd expect.

Described by The Cosmic Circus as a "World War" storyline, the groundwork for this has supposedly been laid in Spider-Man: Far From Home, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Secret Invasion.

The gist is that the fear world leaders have of superheroes, and the fact The Avengers are no more, will lead to an arms race of sorts which sees them attempt to create their own superhuman soldiers and teams.

This explains France's surprising decision to try and steal Vibranium from Wakanda and the C.I.A.'s attempts to get their hands on the precious, incredibly powerful, metal.

We've previously heard that Captain America: Brave New World will see different countries attempt to mine the remains of the Celestial Tiamut for Adamantium, while Thunderbolts* looks set to introduce the ultimate super soldier in The Sentry.

Meanwhile, The Leader is also expected to be creating superhumans for both the U.S. Government and future Red Hulk, President "Thunderbolt" Ross.

"Marvel Studios is setting up a World War Hulk project, albeit not in the way that people would expect," the site notes. "The idea is for Bruce Banner, who teased the dangers of Hulk’s blood back in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, to finally see his worst nightmare come to life; the United States government and the governments of the world creating their own Hulks."

"This might be the breaking point for Banner and could potentially see the return of the Savage Hulk people have been wanting to see for so long as he goes toe to toe with President Ross as the Red Hulk, which I’m being told will happen sooner rather than later."

That last part is very exciting as it suggests we don't have long to wait until all these different storylines come together for an event movie which presumably stands apart from Avengers: Secret Wars

You can see how the groundwork has been laid for all of this, anyway, and it culminating with The Hulk taking centre stage has all the makings of a great movie. However, it's also a significant departure from the comics which saw a rampaging Jade Giant declare war on the Illuminati and the entire planet.

Let us know your thoughts on these rumoured details in the comments section below.

@DocSpock - If true, It seems like Marvel has learned that sporadic movies/shows with no connection aren't working in the Multiverse Saga. People want the interconnection again.

What kind of a world do we live in when red hulk is debuting in a hulk-less cap movie and we have articles like this saying "we'll hulk and red hulk to cross paths sooner than expected"?

@BruceWayng - how do you know Hulk doesn't appear, just curious?

I think they are hiding a lot of the slate until after Deadpool & Wolverine and Brave New World. There is a hidden subtitle to Thunderbolts.

I think we will be getting World War Hulk and Avengers vs X-Men being announced.

@MrDandy - I don't think they'll do AvX anytime soon, seeing how no MCU-native mutants have been introduced. Rather see them keep that as finale for the next saga.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 6/7/2024, 11:42 AM
@bkmeijer1 - it’s a multiverse saga and they got the rights to X-Men. Half the reason they are doing this saga is to make use of already established IP. I think they will definitely do an Avengers vs X-Men. They are already bringing in those characters in The Marvels with Beast, WandaVision with Quicksilver, MoM with Professor X, and Deadpool and Wolverine with numberous characters.

@bkmeijer1 - I think the next saga will be the Mutant Saga and that’s when the MCU continuity X-Men will be introduced.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/7/2024, 11:46 AM
@bkmeijer1 - It could be an incursion with an X-Men universe. The Avengers of the MCU Vs. the X-Men of another world in an epic battle for survival.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/7/2024, 12:24 PM
@ObserverIO - They could do that but would be wrong to be called AvX, it would be a battle between worlds, the Avengers being the dominant hero force in one and Xmen in the other would be a side effect of that. Unsure it is a wise direction to go in and would hope if they did it was just an one off battle till they realise they are both good guys with the same goal of stopping the incursion to prevent the destruction of both worlds.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/7/2024, 2:42 PM
@MrDandy @ObserverIO - I could see it be MCU Avengers vs. multiverse Mutants, but I doubt it'll be anything like the AvX event from the comics then.

It's kinda like @Apophis71 says that it would be a battle between worlds. Maybe they're both trying to prevent an incursion, but each have their own way of going about it. That could lead to a clash I suppose. I wouldn't mind that.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/7/2024, 2:44 PM
@Apophis71 @bkmeijer1 - It would be just using the name really, like Age of Ultron or the above WWH rumor.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/7/2024, 2:45 PM
@ObserverIO - if they're just using the name, I'd be fine with that. I rather see them save it for the actual AvX, which I think would serve as a nice Mutant Saga finale.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/7/2024, 2:50 PM
@ObserverIO - I get that and it will be viewed as AvX if they clash at all regardless label but think they should hold of on using it in a title until a TRUE AvX once they have fully established a stable new Xmen and Avengers teams after Secret Wars over the course of at least two phases :D As such Avengers: Incursion or Avengers: Clash of Worlds would be better than Avengers: AvX (if not going back to Kang Dynasty or opting for Secret Wars part one)

HulkisHoly - 6/7/2024, 11:23 AM
I mean it’s a completely different plot than the comic but if true, a bunch of hulks fighting each other dies fit the title “WWH”
HulkisHoly
HulkisHoly - 6/7/2024, 11:24 AM
@HulkisHoly - * does
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/7/2024, 2:51 PM
@HulkisHoly - World War Hulks would make more sense then. Think that's even already a comic run that deals with the fallout of Fall of the Hulks (which involved Leader).

Also (OT), I finished Outer Range. It was less of a slog than season 1, as it give more characters stuff to do. Still leaves some stuff open, but it all felt conclusive enough.
HulkisHoly
HulkisHoly - 6/7/2024, 6:47 PM
@bkmeijer1 -

So the show is done after 2 seasons?
Glad it got better.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/8/2024, 7:17 AM
@HulkisHoly - it definitely got better. There is some stuff left open they could pick up again, but it also works if this was the final season
HulkisHoly
HulkisHoly - 6/8/2024, 10:48 AM
@bkmeijer1 -

Hmmm maybe one day I’ll start season 2 then.

OT - I like Invincible Season 2 even more than the first season. I think the first one was kind of predictable whereas season 2 finally found its uniqueness. Especially since Invincible takes heavy inspiration from comics and animes that we’ve all seen before.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/8/2024, 12:09 PM
@HulkisHoly - there's no pressure to watch Outer Range at all anyway. Even if it find it's uniqueness more like Invincible did as well indeed. Hope Rings of Power can settle into that as well
HulkisHoly
HulkisHoly - 6/8/2024, 8:51 PM
@bkmeijer1 -

Maybe I’m too narrow minded but from what I heard, there is no good reason to watch ROP. But that’s just what I’ve heard from reviewers I generally trust.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/9/2024, 3:20 AM
@HulkisHoly - I'm not expecting much of it either, but I'm still willing to give it a chance

Sounds cool if true but isn’t the whole reason we have had Hulk as part of ensembles or in supporting roles like She-Hulk was because they can’t make a movie about him because of rights issues with Universal?.

I think that still stands and I don’t see it being a show due to how expensive it could be so we’ll see.

I do like the idea though and it does fit Marvel’s pattern of taking comic titles atleast but then doing their own thing with it so ot fits within the universe they have created.

Anyway , I have enjoyed Smart Hulk but it would be cool to see Hulk regress back into his Savage iteration for this as long as it makes sense.

@TheVisionary25 - Thunderbolts* - World War Hulk

I said it months ago, and this does nothing to change my mind
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/7/2024, 12:29 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Likely resolved the issue with Universal by now if they are, tend to have expiration dates on a lot of rights deals and as Universal lost creative control due to one of those elapsing the distribution rights would be easier to negotiate it going back to Marvel (as Universal could make anything Hulk related at all and couldn't prevent Disney using Hulk in non-titular but major roles).

@SATW42 - I feel like they'd have to make the movie a 2 parter to make that a reality

@TheVisionary25 - Depends on what the fix would be, if the * IS a standin for a subtitle of WWH without putting it into the official title it could be a sneaky work around and once done seal the deal to buy back distribution at a discount price (and if Universal refuse continue with more and more blatant work arounds till they do or loose a court battle over it).

Would love to see a Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters! type of Hulk movie where he's going around the world taking down a who's who of his rogues gallery: Bi-Beast, U-Foes, Wendigo, Zzzax, Madman, Glob, etc.
