BOX OFFICE: IRON MAN THREE Hits $36.5M Overseas; Gets New Release Date In China
Iron Man Three opened in even more international territories yesterday, and that means its two day total now stands at an impressive $36.5 million! With another week to go until it's released in North America, the threequel is off to a VERY impressive start.
Deadline reports that Marvel Studios and Shane Black's critically acclaimed Iron Man Three has gotten off to an incredible start at the international box office with a whopping $36.5 million in just two days of weekday release. According to the site, the threequel has opened up even bigger than The Avengers in countries including Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan and Indonesia. However, a $3.6 million opening in the UK meant it was just 9% behind Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble. It's released today in Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, Japan and Brazil, while it finally hits North America next week. Disney also announced today that the threequel has been given a new release dat in China; May 1st. In 2010, Iron Man 2 grossed $100 million during its opening weekend overseas, but it's thought that this instalment will earn upwards of $110 million (more at this rate).
