Kevin Feige Explains ‘Eric Savin’ Role In IRON MAN 3 And Casting James Badge Dale

Sharing the first bit of details regarding the established Marvel character’s inclusion in Iron Man 3, Kevin Feige says actor James Badge Dale’s role as Eric Savin/Coldblood is a frightening individual.

Marvel Comics has established the character Eric Savin as a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who later becomes a cyborg villain known as Coldblood. However, besides being portrayed by The Grey actor James Badge Dale, very little is known about Savin’s inclusion in Iron Man 3. Offering details about Eric Savin’s role in the film, via ScreenRant, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige reveals:

“James Badge Dale plays a character known as Savin. He works for Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian. You don’t know a lot about Savin at first but as the movie unfolds you learn more and more that he is a

very frightening individual and he’s somebody that has used Maya Hansen’s technology Extremis for his own ends. He’s somebody who can walk around and seemingly be just sort of an average Joe, but who presents himself with such a cocky confidence that you’re not sure where that’s coming from or why he has it and then you see what he can do. James is an amazing actor, whom we looked at for a number of different films. We saw him for the first time in the miniseries “The Pacific,” where he does a tremendous job. He did a great performance in “The Grey” last year. For this role that is not the lead character or the lead hero or the lead villain, we wanted an actor who can rise above and who can hold his own against this cast and from day one, James came in and proved that he could do that perfectly. He can be very funny when he wants to be and he can be very scary when he wants to be and he does both in this movie very well. ”

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968. “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures & DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee & Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film hits May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Marvel Studios will also release “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; the sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

@Gusto, How many times have you sat through it? For someone that doesn't like it and complains about all the movies, you sure act like you can't stand 'em, but you keep watching'. Yer a funny dude!!!

IM2 was no where near as good as IM, but it was still good entertainment. I think IM3 will knock our socks off. Can't wait for May 3!!!!

IM2 was okay but it felt like a FOX Marvel movie... Too cheesy.

IM was great, I loved how raw it was when he felt absolutely helpless before the inception of the suit.

IM3 looks incredible. Shane Black is a great chose for director and Extremis is THE Iron Man story.

Why not just name him "Mallen"? I don't understand. That's like if they brought in the Hulkbuster armor but didn't call it the Hulkbuster armor

I got a feeling that the Extremis Soldier in the Lego set is supposed to be Savin.

Very nice to know how savin is going to be handled.

IM was the gold standard for me. Not the best CBM of all time, but it definitely was a game changer for Marvel and CBMs as a genre. IM2 was watchable, but easily the weakest film in the series. IM3 looks promising.

I'm optimistic for Marvel making amends with this third film and I don't think they'll make the mistake of jam packing too many villains

People are smarter in the superhero genre than they were when Spiderman 3 came out
NightForce
NightForce - 3/28/2013, 9:45 PM
They aren't gonna Spider-Man 3 this guys. Shane Black at ComicCon last year acknowledged what was wrong with SM3 was the fact all the villains each had their own plot threads that had nothing to do with each other. We're not gonna have that problem with Iron Man 3. All the villains serve a purpose to the story. I can't wait to see Extremis soldiers clash with Iron Man suits.

Its all about Iron Man right now, Thor will get a good six months to show off his movie from the first trailer to a million interviews (half of these will be with Hiddleston on how awesome the cast is lol)

Focus on Iron Man for the moment
